My Cowboys Beginning. What's yours?

A long time ago... In a galaxy far, far away....

After thanksgiving meal at my aunts house in 1983... The Cowboys were playing... They showed a replay of Dorsett running for 99 yard touchdown year before.

I saw him and the star galloping down the length of the field like a thoroughbred.

I was in.

And dats dat! And there ain't nothin you can do about it.

I am the alpha and the omega

First football game I ever saw on TV grabbed my imagination....GB/Dallas---IceBowl. Been a Cowboys fan ever since.

First baseball I ever saw to grab my imagination....STL/Boston, '67 series....Gibson, Brock...Been a Cardinals fan ever since.

First basketball to catch my imagination was Knicks/Lakers....Willis comes out on a bum leg....Been a Knicks fan ever since.

When I was watching the Ice Bowl. My dad explained that Dallas was in Texas.
That was it.

1970. When I was 6 years old my family lived in St. Louis. I went to a Cardinals game and I really liked the opponent because they had a star on their helmet. We moved to TX in 1974 and I already liked the Dallas Cowboys.

Was a big fan of Bob Hayes as a player at A&M and was going to the Olympics in Japan. Saw the most amazing run in the last quarter of the 4X100. He was drafted by the Cowboys and I've been a fan since.

Born in 1982. My Dad and Grandad watched games throughout my childhood, I ended up catching on, remember some games vaguely here and there throughout the 80's. My first true memory was the 92 Super Bowl season (first game against the Giants) when Emmitt Smith ran the ball up the gut 60+ yards for a TD. Became truly hooked from there. I also remember the Kelvin Martin punt return against the Rams, and the Emmitt Fumble for a safety loss against the Skins. Of course there was the Alvin Harper play against the 9ers in the championship game, I'm pretty sure I was in full bliss!! It was a very very emotional rollercoaster ride for me that year. That was the point where I pretty much knew I was a Cowboy fan for life.

You guys have some awesome stories on becoming a Cowboys fan, I am afraid I can not compete. My beginning was in 1980 at 4yrs old. I lived in Virginia (Commander Country) and my parents were Pittsburgh fans while my older sister was a Commander fan. Rather you call me the white sheep or the black sheep of the family, that was when I decided to be a Cowboys fan. Since then I have never wavered from being the pain in my family's side but I have always loved the rivalries between the 3 teams. Anyhow 36 years later here I am supporting the Star.

EDIT: My best memory will still be finally beating the Steelers in Superbowl 30. It was a long time coming and I hope there will be many more to come. Just a darn shame we can't beat the Commanders too in a superbowl.

Yeah, really I was a Cowboy fan from the start. My Mother, you see, had a Cowboys star tattooed on her thigh and when I was born... Well, you get the idea.

Awesome, I so wish my family was so one sided. My son still found a way to become a Steelers fan, even though I have the blackmail pictures of him wearing Cowboys onesies before he could decide for himself. While it is fun to give him crap over it, he still went to the dark side. I tried guys, he is just as rebellious as I am. Guess it runs in the family. lol

They used to show a highlights package of the previous weeks games here on a Sunday morning which was my first introduction to the sport. Seemed to be a lot of Dolphins, Raiders and 'Niners love here but I never had a team, was just intrigued by this weird foreign sport. I do remember liking Aikman and Jim Kelly. Once I was old enough to drink a few of us used to sit up to watch the superbowl (starts at midnight here) but it was more for the beer and food than the football.
In '08 was visiting my now in-laws in Texas and sat watching the Cowboys win at Green Bay with her dad having a few beers. Bought myself a Romo jersey the next day and then went and got myself a copy of Madden the day I got home to teach myself the rules.
Sure I pissed off a few on here after the superbowl that year questioning why the superbowl champs are called world champions

Growing up in Maryland, I was a Washington Commanders fan. I used to hate the Cowboys and particularly Roger Staubach. I couldn't wait to get into the league and sack him myself. But, I loved me some Tony Dorsett. The spin moves, the speed, the graceful stride. And then the Cowboys drafted him. I followed him to the Cowboys as a fan and haven't looked back since.

it was around christmas time i believe. odd i never backtracked my own 8/23 birthday back 9 months to figure out mom and dad got me going during the holiday season. musta been some mistletoe! but in any event, that's where i began.

ff to around 1972 give or take and i was a vikings fan. partly due to my grandfather being from minny and partly cause the helmet had horns. what kid does NOT want horns on their helmet? but after a few years of living in texas and just picking up on my dads football conversations...my mom historically telling my dads friends bob hayes was related to us (no she didn't watch much football, did she?) i eventually fell into watching staubauch, tony hill, drew pearson, randy white, too tall, and vaguely remember hollywood putting his ring up for sale.

the rest is just one hell of a history.

My first conscious memory of the Dallas Cowboys was Super Bowl 12 when they played the Broncos. I remember all the Orange Crush hype and after the game one of the Cowboys players crushed a can of Orange Crush soda while his team mate was being interviewed.
Hollywood was the player doing the crushing.

2016 will be my first season as a fan!

I bought all 32 mini nfl helmets and separated them by division and conference...I mashed every teams helmets together until the plastic face mask fell off one helmet to determine a winner and loser....I matched each team vs their upcoming opponents this season and ultimately the Cowboys won the championship...

That's how I picked them as my favorite team...if nothing else, the Cowboys already won the helmet mashing championship this year

Keep your fingers off the side clips :D

1971 season culminating with the January 17, 1972 super bowl win over Miami. I was 10 and a late bloomer to the cowboys bus.
