I have a personal theory, one I've never heard anywhere else, that has served me well...
It's my belief that life is a pendulum, constantly swinging back and forth between the good times and the bad times... so I think that what you have to do is hang on for dear life while it's swinging toward the bad times, then enjoy it with all your heart when it swings back to the good times...
At least, it seems to have worked that way in my life-- my biggest tragedy, the loss of my Dad when he was just 51, was followed immediately by the biggest break I ever got in my life, when the owner of the golf club he was working at when he died handed me an envelope at Dad's funeral, an offer for me to take over as head pro at his club... what followed were the four best years of my life...
So, my good and trusted friend, my advice to you is to hang on tooth and nail until the pendulum swings back your way... it will, I believe that... and if the universe is in balance, however far it has swung to the bad will be how far it swings back to the good...
I'm REAL glad to hear your Dad's doing better... maybe that pendulum is starting to swing back already...
