My emotional investment

I’ve been a Cowboys fan since I was a kid.

Inherited it from my dad. Growing up in Toronto, they were basically the only team on TV besides Buffalo. I even loved the cheerleaders as a four-year-old boy

I watched that team destroy everyone for what felt like forever. Carried that fire in my belly for years.

Jerry Jones slowly took that from me.
And I will never forgive him for it.

What used to be a proud, dominant franchise has become a laughing stock, largely because of one man’s ego and his complete inability to admit when something isn’t working.

The Green Bay debacle in the playoffs and the total lack of real action afterward sealed it for me.

I’ve been called a hater. Told I’m not a real fan. Told to find a new team.
All because I’m no longer emotionally invested the way I used to be.

I still watch. I still cheer. I still hate losing.
But the fire isn’t there anymore.

And honestly… that’s healthier. At least for me.

Anyone else feel what I am saying?
You're a bit late.... I officially checked out after J Geezy and 3 straight 8-8's. Just his hiring in the first place convinced me Jerry was no longer serious about winning.

I can agree that it is definitely much healthier being emotionally detached from Jerry's shitshow. I haven't cared if they win or lose for many years and I'm totally fine with it.

I've noticed I don't really care win or loss. It's been at least 2 decades as even the Romo fumble vs Seattle didn't bother me that much.

Get more disappointed over a hockey loss in a 82, now 84, game season.

Just hard to get fully invested when the Jones duo are this incompetent running the team. Puppet coaches, terrible GMing etc.

You aren’t alone. There are plenty of us in here that are numb to it at this point

Our stupid fans still cheer Jerry and ask for his autograph.

Instead, when at the games, they should start chanting “sell the team, sell the team!”.
Anybody fawning over Jerry at this point needs their head examined

I've never turned the game off as quick as I did last night and a good friend of mine who's been a fan since 1977 did the same thing. I'm done with this team.

I completely understand the feeling @phildadon86.

The 2023 playoff loss to Green Bay and subsequent inaction by the FO did it for me as well. The team had 3 straight 12-5 seasons, coming off of being a 2 seed in the playoffs. Instead of figuring out what moves to make in order to get over the hump, Jerry and Stephen sat on their hands to punish McCarthy and it punished the fan base too.

I enjoy the spectacle of the NFL and the Cowboys will always be my team. I can’t fake my Cowboys passion for a different franchise and can’t envision falling in love with a different team like I did with the Cowboys as a kid.

I still keep up with the news, enjoy seeing the opinions on this board, but like you, my candle is now dimly lit compared to the past.

I used to build my weekends around the game. Had to watch it on the big screen with the sound blaring. Now, I rarely even watch the games all the way through. I did my grocery shopping during the second half last night and didn’t bat an eye.

Me too. I don't think I got hammered for it as bad as you did but I absolutely know you are on record with your trepidation about this team and the offseason moves. And you were basically 100% correct
Hiring Schotty really did a number on me. Like I needed more evidence Jerry only wants to win his way, fan base be damned.

Not me ......... I am gonna keep allowing it to bother me for days ........ just like when we were winning Super Bowls.

I was a fan before the wretch Jerry Jones came along ....... and I will be a fan after he is rotting (except the plastic parts) in the ground.

It’s time to blow it up. Trade some linemen and WRs for picks and look to rebuild when the QB is officially gone. He might as well be gone now but the albatross will be here for a couple years.
I think they will run this garbage back two more years. This franchise is stuck with that contract for Dak and it's going to get worse before it gets better.

Feel the same, thats one reason I apprecaite the die-hards here...The Cowboyszone is an awesome place.

I figured long ago once i heard Stephen open his trap we were screwed regardless. I'm pro Charlotte taking the reigns at this point.

Now my mom has gotten into football to have something to talk about with my brother and me as we were clear across the country - I only want them to win for her...but even she's learned enough to basically predict whats going on.

Nothing wrong with that .
for 20 years. I got angry when we started doing stupid things and losing, for the past 10 years i just laugh my butt off.

Felt it before and still feel it now.

The longer it goes on just makes it so much worse.

The reality that the sale of your childhood team is the absolute only answer as to there ever being a chance at a championship again is truly hard to swallow. On Mondays especially.

Low blow man, low blow.
I was just kidding with him. This is just sports and there is no such thing as a low blow when it comes to sports related trash talk. Especially in hockey and double especially about a rival.

Besides that, I went easy on him. If he was a Habs fan i would have went for the throat.
