My eye test on Trey and what he brings that Dak doesn't

I know, I know, another Trey Lance thread, but hear me out. I spent an hour looking over his play from his rookie season to current pre season action and I came away with a few things that separate him from Dak. Of course Dak is more advanced at this point but I saw a few things that Trey had that Dak lacks..

#1. His ability to naturally step up in pocket instinctively to avoid the edge rushers and make positive plays either with his arm or feet. This is something that Dak is horrible at in my opinion and it's an exercise in frustration for me to watch.

#2. His release is much much quicker and his arm is way stronger. Yes, I know, he has a wonky side arm release that needs work but at times this funky mechanic gets the ball around edge rushers for positive plays so I will leave that up your eyes on that one..

I've always been a Dak fan, and not under some false pretentious that Lance is going to take Dak's job but I seriously see some very good intangibles with this young man and can see why we traded for him... If Fat Mike's Qb school can iron out some of these wrinkles we very well might have a nice starting QB in a few years for the cost of a 4th rounder.

BWAAAAA!!! You are no Dak fan. LOL

No Dak fan would make up false lies and post them on a fan forum.

NUMBER 1 SAID IT ALL FOR ME, dak is so slow running the ball and on bootlegs. If he stepped up in the pocket better, and were able to run at a more effective level, it would really help our offense move at times

This kid a long term project and an investment for the future. There was a reason the 49ers gave king's ransom for him as the 3rd overall pick. Like it or not the deal is done and let's hope he can be a stud. He is still young and Dak is 30. Solid move with very little downside IMO.

I do think that Dak has changed his style of play a bit since the ankle injury. He is still a decent QB and gives us a chance to win if he has the pieces around him.

See, I told you that folks would be calling for Lance because they think he’s better than Dak. Just wait until the first bad series.

We all hope he works out. For him it's about learning the game as it unfolds in front of him.

There have been a lot of QBs with great arm, but amounted to nothing in the NFL. So far it doesn't look good for him based on NFL results playing at this level.

He is got a little ways to go and perhaps change of scenery and no pressure might do him some good.

Like I said we all hope so.

If you listed out 20 things for Dak vs Lance, there would probably be atleast 16 or more that Dak does better. So it seems crazy some would try to make a QB controversy.

What could Lance do better?

-Run faster?
-Throw the ball further?

Neither really definitively means better results on the field. The Cowboys are taking a low risk shot at developing Lance because he's a young, talented, but unpolished QB.. The Cowboys have said many times they're committed to Dak so unless Lance is needed on gameday and starts playing amazing there's virtually no reason to think he will be QB1 here.

I have noticed Lance's ability to step up and his release. If he can learn from Mike the way other QBs have, I think we will be delighted about this move. I think, if nothing else, he can be a nice backup for Dak. Sort of like what Flynn was for Rodgers.

Wasn’t there kind of a power struggle between Shanahan and Lynch about Lance. Lunch wanted him but Shanahan didn’t. If the coach doesn’t want you a change of scenery is needed. Also would explain why Shanny didn’t coach him up.

I find it hilarious that some are worried that Lance will be a distraction for Dak. Dak is a man. If he can't handle the pressure he shouldn't be QB 1. Dak's a better QB right now for the most part. Yeah, he got jumpy and nervous after the ankle injury. Yes, I think he folded twice in two years in the playoffs because he played scared, but he's still QB1 and rightfully so right now. Will that change in the future? Possibly, but if he can't handle them developing another potential starter, he should pack his bags and leave. This is football, not therapy.
