My feeling about the draft

Crazy thing is, they may have to take Lynch at 4 if they really covet him. I can count 7 out of the next 10 teams that pick after us that MAY consider a QB, especially if they covet one. Now is it possible Lynch could fall to later in the first or even the second? Sure...QBs slip every year but do you really want to risk passing on one or trade down a few slots just to watch the Dolphins or 49ers get our guy?

You are probably right. It is a fruitless exercise to hang your hopes on a player being available late in the first. Other teams can trade up or down too. And we certainly are not the only club that could use a QB.

Back up plan might be, how far down can we trade and still get Lynch.

And like I said, that is a fruitless exercise. That is how you end up with articles the day after the draft where they state they wanted player X and it just never materialized.

Forget down, trade up! It isn't like Dallas is any good at mid-round picks anyway and supposedly Lynch is hovering in the minds of a lot of talking heads at the moment. Package that second choice and a 4th and see if a team like Green Bay or Seattle will bite.

I think we are the type of organization that keep our cards close to chest. My gut feeling, according to free agency and everything else that's been played out, we'll go quarterback at four. I think we are bluffing so nobody trades ahead of us and grabs our guy. I think the Cowboys go Goff at four. I remember a few years ago, we didn't meet or show any interest in Claiborne, and then we traded up and snatched him. I remember after that draft he said that he didnt have any real talks w Cowboy officials and was completely shocked, as well.

Also remember that actually asked Romo about how he would feel about a QB at 4

Unless something is very secretive, I think you are right. They look to be far more interested in Lynch than Goff.

Highest upside of any QB in the draft IMO. I think 4 is high for him, but it doesnt mean NFL teams do. Like robjay04 said, alot of teams after us covet a QB

Would any of you be upset if we take Lynch if Goff is still on the board? I have a feeling the front office believes Cleveland will take Wentz, and they prefer Lynch over Goff.

I think they secretly like Goff .

Gut tells me Cook or Lynch in the 2nd depending who falls. If neither then, Prescott in the 3rd or 4th. I'd love for wentz or goff too but my "gut" tells me Bosa will be the pick at 4.

If you guys really had to put money on it and bet disregarding personal preference, Bosa just makes the most sense. Thin at DE, 20 year old, prime position, starts right away.

Right now, best case rookie scenario: a JJ Watt or an Aaron Rodgers waiting under the wing. Now I understand the fascination with a QB and I would love one with the top pick but putting that aside I'd put money on Bosa at 4.

I wouldn't be upset, though I think Goff is the best of them all. I like Lynch as well. Taking any of these three guys would make me happy.

It's the perfect time to take a QB. Romo has two years left in him, and is the ideal coach to bring along a rookie--especially one like Lynch who is raw just as Romo was.

I doubt we'll be this high in the draft with Romo as the QB.

And in a typical draft, the top QBs would go 1 & 2. But this isn't a typical draft, and we need to take advantage of the opportunity to get the second best guy at 4.

How can you "highly doubt" that they are interested in a QB at 4 when they've held private workouts with each of the top QBs?

They workout all kinds of players each year before the draft. it is not a guarantee that come draft time they are going to be drafted.

I highly doubt we will waste a QB pick at #4 for a guy to sit behind Romo for 4 or 5 years. That makes no sense at all. Those that want a QB are basing it on Romo not staying healthy. There will be opportunities before the season to land a backup.

Speaking only for myself, I lean towards QB because I remember the years after Aikman and have no desire to watch part duuuh of that movie. I also do not believe Romo will be our starting QB for 4 or 5 more years. I believe he has 2 maybe 3 years left and that the team needs to have a transition plan in place. I don't think we will be picking this high in the draft again for a long time and think we should take advantage of it by selecting an heir apparent for the most important position on the field - QB. Of course this is all predicated on the assumption that they have a QB graded to be worth the pick.

As much as it pains me to say, you are probably correct. I hope we are both wrong, no offense. The sad part is that it is very possible that neither Cook nor Lynch fall to #34 and we are left scrambling.

I think there is always the possibility of things unfolding differently than expected so the team has to be prepared for that. You don't rule out any scenario.

Last year, the Cowboys said there wasn't any urgency to draft a running back and the final result showed that. It doesn't mean that the team wouldn't have chosen a running back if the draft had fallen differently.

Similarly, I don't think Jones' comments about not drafting a QB or RB at No. 4 rules out Dallas taking one, only that he believes the Cowboys won't take any based on expectations. Maybe the team expects Wentz to be gone at 4 and wouldn't take any of the QBs there. Maybe the team has a couple of players at other positions like Bosa or Ramsey that it wants to draft, but will take a QB if neither one of them is there.

The key to me is that over time, I've found Jerry to be more forthright that you would think he'd be when he makes firm statements about the team. Therefore, I do not think the intention is for the team to take a QB or RB at 4.
