Anyone who thinks Stanback is going to be cut doesn't know or understand football. The kid has a tremedous upside especially as a WR. Granted he doesn't run great routes yet but he catches the ball well and his speed is better than anyone except Newman.
These are the same people who would have cut Bob Hayes years ago because he was a track star. Stanback will start in two years, he is a bigger, faster version of Irvin which can only be good for us.
Going to the roster, the one thing we can be sure of is that there is probably one or two if not more guys that currently aren't on the roster that will be come Tuesday or Wednesday.
I still believe we will be trading one or two guys and at the same time acquiring one or two via trade.
See on two QBs on the roster and 1 Kicker. Find it hard to believe we aren't going to do something with Ellis and just wait until he can play in week 7 or something like that. Have to believe Curtis makes the third TE but depending on what we do at WR or LB or CB might make it a necessity to only keep 2 TEs. If Thompson's ankle is bad then the KR duties fall to Stanback, Austin and/or Urban.
Does anyone really believe we are going to let Newman return punts this year, not with that injury. And Crayton is at best so-so at punt returns. Urban can return punts and kickoffs while Austin is just a WR and KR. Honestly how many 6th WR get into a game. Believe the answer is Zero.
The only surprise I could see would be if an offer from the Jets for a OG like Kosier came down the pike and we just couldn't refuse it. I could see us going with McQ and Proctor at OG, although I would prefer the likes of the vet Kosier.
How does the knee injury that Carpenter sustained last night effect our LB corp. Will we keep Saldi or Long or Phillips since Ellis is still out? Right now we have 5 healthy LBs. Burnett out with ankle surgery although should be back in the first or second week, don't know about Carpenter and well Ellis is out indefinitely.
It will be interesting on Saturday.
