I'm sure there's some merit to what you posted.

He's apparently a better athlete than he is a football player, hence he was able to show well at his pro day.

But in my view if you want someone that can provide pass rush then get a guy who's spent his college career as a pass rusher.

I could see a "project" guy in the 4th round, but not this high up.

I feel the same way, but this might be an attempt at being cute to get some "role" that the DC thinks will take the defense to another level. Or it could be that McKinney is not a lock first round pick. I do not think he is even close. He is in that group of players that once you get past the first 17-18 players could be number 19 or number 64 depending on the team.

Agreed.

lol. if Dallas did trade out of 27 to 33 i could see the guys in the mix being

Owamagbe Odighizuwa DE
Benardrick McKinney LB
Ronald Darby CB
Tevin Coleman RB
Eric Rowe DB
PJ Williams CB
Devin Smith WR
Cedric Ogbuehi OT
Carl Davis DT
Mario Edwards Jr DE

Again, the guy sounds like a project.

Do that in round 4.

Is he a project if you take him in a hybrid role in 2015 and he takes over for McClain in 2016?

There is a strong likelihood that we might be choosing a LBer early depending on value and if we are "set" at three starters, you are looking for roles.

Not advocating it at all, just pointing out the situation.

Realistically every one is a project at 27. Not saying I would do it but McKinney wont make it past the Rams pick in the 2nd. Also if it boils down to him or Gregory, I'll take McKinney every time. Even I have to say the Cowboys scouts have been more right than wrong the last few years.

I agree that they (the Cowboys scouts) have been right more often lately.

But at this point we have no idea what they really think about the kid. They may rate him high like in this mock or they may rate him as a 3rd or 4th rounder like I've seen him in many places.

McKinney really opened alot of eyes at his proday. He did alot of stuff teams didnt think he could in the posistion drills and did it fast

The 'Boys worked out Mississippi State ILB Benardrick McKinney on Friday, per NFL draft analyst Tony Pauline. However, the Cowboys aren't taking a look at him at his primary position.

The Cowboys sent a defensive line coach, presumably Ben Bloom, to watch McKinney work out. Although an inside linebacker, McKinney possess the speed to play outside linebacker. He ran a 4.66 40-yard dash at the NFL Scouting Combine in February. And at 6-4, 246 lbs., McKinney has the size to play defensive end.

Could McKinney be a potential solution at DE with Greg Hardy suspended 10 games?

Draft analyst Dane Brugler likes the idea of McKinney playing defensive end in the NFL:

Yeah, that's a pretty good list.

In my heart i think alot of people are going to be disappointed that the pick will be Odighizuwa lol. That is until they see how relentless he is going after the QB. There were times he was throwing OTs off of him this past yr.

No kidding. It is just taking some offhand comment from an article and making it seem like an organizational direction. More than likely it is an idea they are kicking around versus an established must do.

You know, kind of like how it was when Kiffin was hired that Dallas would be going towards Seattle's style of defense.

That might happen until his two repaired hips finally explode. That is my main issue with him.

I am a little more concerned with an Eb Ekuban redo. Freak athlete, average player.

Would be perfectly ok with this draft.

But like others I'd prefer a different player at 33. With what you had on the board I would take WR Davante Parker . Not a need but the best player on the board. I've seen some mocks suggesting he goes top 10. Or even WR Breshad Perriman who I think goes in the top 25.

From a pure needs standpoint I would take Odighizuwa over McKinney.
