Step One –

Resign Hardy (4 years, 20 MM guaranteed plus heavy incentives), McClain (1MM plus 2MM in incentives, same as this year), Bernadeau (2MM) and Claiborne (3MM guaranteed, plus incentives). Dallas always keeps the players they want to keep.

Step Two -

Sign a 1 Tech (i.e. BJ Raji) for 2+MM and a Safety (i.e. Eric Weddle) for 6MM plus incentives. Fill the key holes in the defense.

Step Three -

Pursue a premier FA to upgrade a key position. My examples would be CB Josh Norman or WR Alshon Jeffrey. Either would cost a lot but we have a ton of money to spend, either would be a huge upgrade and Jerry is very good at signing the FA’s he pursues.

Step Four -

In the Draft, trade down in the first round, pick up an extra #2 and take RB & QB early. IMO they are likely to go CB and LB among the first four picks as well. Landing a premier Free Agent like Josh Norman or Alshon Jeffrey changes the draft strategy obviously.

So my project depth chart is below, it doesn’t list a Premier FA being signed, but I think if we don’t sign that type of player the team will sign second tier FAs at those spots. I have Leary at RT but this thread isn’t about that argument. Also Brandon Carr is under contract for next year, I think his spot will be addressed late in the offseason depending on how the other moves play out beforehand.

I like the idea of spending some real money in Free Agency. If they re-sign Hardy it isn't a good year to go for comp picks. Sign 3 or 4 this year and get it out of the way.

Safety and 1T are great spots to spend money and not picks.

I want QB/RB/WR early. We neglected skill positions too long.

I said the exact same thing in another thread. No shot he is getting out of Carolina. What's the tag number going to be on CBS this year?

I'm saying it Norman or bust, I'm saying Jones will have a lot of money to spend and the chance to get an impact player at CB, Sam, or WR. I think he signs a Safety for sure, but I really think there will be a target of opportunity that hits the market - and Jones will pounce.

I wouldn't sign him. He's 28 and he'll be looking to be paid top 1-3 CB money. Sherman is younger and signed his deal last season. Norman will look to top it.

Norman will probably get tagged.

Janoris Jenkins is worth pursuing.

draft Draft DRAFT

Honestly how many FA signings are worth the ransom?

We signed Carr out of need...... Just use our great draft position wisely

As phenomenal as Norman has been this year, I wouldn't hand him a big contract. Seems like he could be a headache, and CB play is very transient.

I wouldn't sign any big money CBs. Only a mid level one that fits Marinelli's scheme, whatever it is.

Weddle on a 2 year deal and OScan coming back combined with BJones and we are pretty good. Add another CB in the Draft3-4 and let Wilcox and Church fight for SS and Nickel snaps.

Norman has greatly benefited from Carolina's pass rush and outstanding LB play. He's good but a bit overrated.. not worth a giant contract

I don't think its a prohibition against signing big FA's, I think its a commitment to getting value. You see it in the draft of the last couple of years, they went for value, especially in picks like Martin and Hitchens and in not overdrafting a RB this year. I think with a lot of money to spend and coming off a terrible season, Jones will go after a premium FA that he wouldn't have the last couple of years.

the CB to keep an eye on is Tramain Johnson from the Rams. He's an outstanding CB who is an excellent tackler, also has good ball skills. He could come at a reasonable price. We also got a big look at him in training camp when we scrimmaged the Rams.

5 million a year for hardy is a slap in the face. Old guys like hatcher and jason tuck are making more. 10 sacks a year gets you 9-12 million a year. 12-15 gets you 10-15 million and 14+ gets you 15-20 mill a year.

5 mill is for avg de's. Not game changers. Thats like trying to pay julio jones 5 mill a year
