BTW, we face Jerry Hughes his Sunday - as a DE his contract probably isn't a bad benchmark for Hardy. He got 5 years with 22MM guaranteed and another 23MM in incentives and bonuses.

Hardy is better. Hughes yearly sacks are 4, 10, 10, and 5 this year. Hardy has more sacks coming off of a year layoff and missing 4 games. But i see what you are saying. Heck jack crawford has more sacks than hughes and jack is a rotational player.

Yea I don't think we should spend big money on a FA DE. Lawrence and Gregory will both require 2nd contracts around the same time (assuming Gregory earns it) . I think we need to sign a solid DE on a 2-3 year deal to play 1st /2nd down . IMO Oliver Vernon / Malik Jackson would be perfect.

Hardy is better but he is riskier as well. Hughes got that contract coming off two consecutive seasons with 10 sacks, and he got 9 million per year with 22 Million guaranteed.

Hardy's argument will be that he had a 15 sack season, but the counter will be that he followed that with a season of zero sacks because he was suspended. His current total of 5.5 sacks works out to 9 sacks over a 16 game seasons. That's good but not great.

I think Hardy gets more than Hughes, but with more of it built into incentives. Hughes got 45 Million over 5 years with half of it guaranteed, I think Hardy will get something like 12 Million per season but will half (or maybe less) guaranteed.

I don't think Carr has been as awful as some here think this year. He has had his bad moments but receivers don't torch this team, believe it or not---we are one of the best in the league against opposing receivers. Part of this may be because teams don't have to throw or be aggressive to beat us. Our defense overall has been fairly good, easily a top 10 unit over the course of the last 8 weeks or so. We are actually ranked 10th in yards and we have lost some games recently giving up minimal points.

How do we make our defense even better?

Play better offense.

Secondary stats and efficiencies this season is more than a bit of smoke and mirrors. As we have seen all season, when a team needs a score at the end of the game, they can drive the field at ease through the air.

5 million a year for hardy is a slap in the face. Old guys like hatcher and jason tuck are making more. 10 sacks a year gets you 9-12 million a year. 12-15 gets you 10-15 million and 14+ gets you 15-20 mill a year.

5 mill is for avg de's. Not game changers. Thats like trying to pay julio jones 5 mill a year

Most of his numbers were low. But in general the heck with Hardy. He disappeared and isn't worth the drama. Unless we get a deal let him go.
