In general, safeties make more tackles than corners do. I think they have to be more physical.

Strong safeties, yes. Free safeties not as much, and they don't have to take on blocking fullbacks and guards.

He got schooled a bit on some quick routes against San Diego. He needs reps badly, as do all rookies.

He played at UConn for goodness sake on an absolutely craptastic defense. He needs work.

But I'm quietly hopeful that they found an Ed Reed type of hawking safety. That would be glorious.

It would also save him from taking a lot of hits if he's the deep safety.

Oh, brother...not in the mood to get into a useless debate.

The shoulder that Byron Jones hurt when he collided with Scandrick was the same shoulder he had surgery on recently.

This bears watching.

The thread title is misleading.

Jones said it does not feel like a serious injury and the 1st Doctor's review of the MRI was positive. They are getting a 2nd opinion of the MRI just to be safe.

Jones is a multi-million dollar investment. I would be concerned if they didn't seek a second opinion for a hangnail.

It's better to error on the side of caution. Worrying should happen when there is something to worry about.

Considering he's leaving camp

I'd say there's definitely reason to be concerned

Factor in that the team always lies about injuries...and I'm starting to really worry

The statement that I saw said he was not leaving camp, but they were just sending the MRI to another Doctor for review.

Stephen Jones said the rookie cornerback won’t leave camp to get the second opinion, but added, “We still feel good about his situation. We obviously have a lot invested in him and want to make sure we do it right.”

Not a direct quote from Jones but you are correct.

It would have been more practical adding the word "My" to the beginning of the thread title.

It is equivalent to just emailing the MRI to another Doctor. The 2nd Doctor might be the one that did the original surgery or a Doctor that the Cowboys use more often than the 1st one.

I assume that a Doctor in California facilitated that the MRI and he probably did the initial review; however, the Doctors that the Cowboys normally use are probably at their office back in Dallas or where ever and we know that Jones didn't travel to get the MRI.

Can't change it now.

I'm just leery because this team is never up front about injuries, it seems, and this sprain was on his operated shoulder. Garrett has adopted the Belichick method of reporting injuries.

Hopefully, this is no issue, and he's out there against the 49ers on Sunday. That's still five days away. Rookies need work.

Just file it away for future reference.

Injuries and football go hand-in-hand. Personally, I'm more concerned about players being inactive during games that actually count.

All of the players need the work, including the rookies. Maybe not artsy-and-crafty Romo though. He's the exception.

Artsy-and-craftsy Romo needs to wrap himself in bubble wrap until the Giants game.
