My issue with Christian Parker

The Cowboys have invested heavily in DL the last few years. 11 day 1 and day 2 picks.

2026 – 1st and 3rd
2025 – 2nd
2024 – 2nd
2023 – 1st and 4th
2022 – 2nd
2021 – Parsons, 3rd, 3rd
2020 – 3rd
2019 – 1st

Within the last year the DL's the Cowboys have traded for are Kenny Clark, Quinnen Williams, and Rashan Gary.

Within the last year the FA's the Cowboys have signed FA's are Otito Ogbonnia, Jonathan Bullard, Dante Fowler Jr., and Payton Turner.

So let's not act like the Cowboys are only interested in "building from the back to the front" when it's crystal clear they haven't been.

Not saying CP is a fraud, but it is concerning the lack of DB development early….very early and we do need to keep that in mind.

If you’re a DB specialist you would think you’d build the front end up and focus on development of young guys and mid tier FAs on the back end. Now we have an early 1st used on downs, our top free agent activity was multiple safeties, and now we are making a splash move for JPJ…and somehow still feel extremely thin at DB.

CP has a fantastic history of player development, but has also been given a plethora of high draft picks to work with in both Denver and Philly. Just something to keep an eye on.
There has to be something to develop.

CP's history of developing CBs is, I think, greatly overstated. You and I could have developed Pat Surtain.

Many of us have been begging Jerry to buy talent like the other 31 teams do.

And surprisingly he has. However, if an Edge Rusher of a high caliber isnt available it shouldn't preclude the "GM" from taking another position of need if the opportunity arises.

If this defense was a player or two away from being complete, id understand the criticism.

The only position on defense that "shouldn't" need upgrade is at DT......every other spot is fair game to upgrade
Our base defense is a 3-4 now. We traded for Q last year bc we needed someone in the middle to stop the run. But we got Q playing a DE position now. So what we have is a failed marriage of personnel and scheme bc there is no plan. We just treadmill talent to accommodate the DC of the moment.

Its game#4i coming up. Let it play out, defense making small increments.

The dude is only 34 years old. He’s got a steep learning curve no doubt and a ton of pressure on him following two lousy DC’s.

Having said that in terms of building a team most successful teams always start at QB, LT, and Cornerback. Those are the 3 hardest positions to play. Depending on if Porter is a #1 and Guyton’s health things are looking up.

Absolutely. He’s worked with a lot of high picks to the point it’s like being Barry sanders RB coach.

Still have to give CP credit for maximizing the Reed Blankenships of the world though too.

I have always been a proponent of building your offensive and defensive lines first before you even start adding the talent behind them. And this is even more important on defense. Any good NFL QB can pick you apart if given time. Hoping CP is no idiot, but at this time Dallas really needs to be able to apply pressure. Scheming how to do this will be the key if CP is a fraud or not.
It seriously appears to me that we have the dawgs to apply pressure.

No they don't. The successful teams start at QB/OL/DT. Look at the super bowl participants and point out to me the ones who started w/ CB.

I would like to see him go to school somewhere else.

Not an excuse for him, but He got it from Fangio.
If it was as simple as copying someone else's defense and ideas, i think any of us could be a DC as well.
Fangio is brilliant though. His own talent has him succeeding with that philosophy time and again. If a rando assistant tries to run that scheme just because he know it, he is going to fail. It takes brilliance to go against the grain and succeed

How many WCO's failed in a run heavy era because they didn't have a Bill Walsh, George Seifert or Mike Holmgren designing it

BINGO

The Raiders are 3-0; Crosby ain’t available.

Outside of him, what difference maker at DE/OLBs is available?

Thebideaux with the Giants? He doesn’t move the needle to me.
