I think we probably played closer to the vest this game than we did in any of the other games...Teams I believe... would use this game to scout opponents when a new coaching staff is present... Who knows... just a thought:)

It is a good mind balm to think that way but I really don't go with that perception. The third game of the pre-season is to establish the type of team you are or are becoming. We flat out were not ready to play and this appeared very Parcellian.

This team inexplicably craters when it seems to start counting the most. I think part of the problem may be that some of the core players lack leadership and grit. It is not the end of the world that they lost the most important game of the pre-season. The team will expose it's game plan in the very first regular season game so one potential win does not the post-season make.

As unfair or unfortunae it may be, it is amazing how one game can break the perception that this Philips team is well prepared and disciplined. Even though Thursday is semi-meaningless I hope we can look respectable in the first half against the Vike to wash away some of the doubt.

The game against the Texans was NOT a dress rehersal for the season. I wish it was, I was there and it was not fun, the Texans fan were going nuts. But still, if you watch the game and look for certain things, you can see that the coach's really were working on different things.

If you look at the first quarter, we were very active on D. We also crushed their offense in the 1st quarter.. i think they had 17 total yards. After that, we went to a base D and didn't bring anyone to fill gaps or create pressure. Wade even said, he wanted to see what the CB could do without help. This not only means safety help and rolling coverage, it means without the help of pressure. You can not get a true evaluation of CB's when the QB is running for his life.

On offense, they didn't try to exploit any of the many weaknesses of the Texans D. That seam route to the TE was open all night,, they threw it one time maybe twice. Crossing patterns, were open all night, only threw it once, for the 35 yd TD to TO. They were working on the inside running game with the two tackles that haven't had much practise. They never changed that.. they would have in a real game.

As much as I and I am sure the rest of the fan base, wanted us to come out and blow the Texans up, that was not the priority for the coaching staff. They wanted to see some stuff and they used a meaningless game to do it. I can't fault them for that.

Now there were some concerns for sure, our CB didn't step up, our D Line was handled pretty good and our ST still need some work. But this game is nothing to get bent out of shape about. This is exactly what the pre season is for.

So Denver plays vanilla defense the whole game and we laugh at them for making excuses and then we do it for three quarters and it's a grand plan. OK.

I don't remember anyone saying we were going to the Superbowl after we beat Denver, or that they put out their best effort. The only thing people objected to about the Denver game was Lynch saying we'd gameplanned and blitzed "every play" when clearly we didn't.

Yeah-why the heck is everyone having this argument over a stupid preseason game from Sat?

When we beat Indy, I didn't think much of it(Indy plays like pooh in the preseason anyways). When we beat Denver, the only reason why I bought into the hype was b/c they were acting like sour grapes. And the only reason why Houston is catching my attention is b/c everyone on this board is going ape****.

Yeah, we looked a bit sloppy, but for the most part, if it weren't for a few stupid penalties early on(to be fair, Flo DID look a bit rusty, which may have set a tempo for our OL play), it would have been over by the first qtr-remember,we outgained the Texans 77-17 in terms of yardage in this qtr.

Take a chill pill, everyone.

Meh. It was our day in the barrel. Denver's going to be a good team this year, and they looked pretty bad against us. I don't doubt our coaches were using this game to get some specific looks at specific conditions, but whatever it was they were looking for, they couldn't have been pleased with what they got.
