My Meaningless Thoughts on the Game...

It was ours for the taking and we handed it back to them. No excuse for not capitalzing on Ware's forced fumble. No excuse for not being able to block for either QB. No excuse for our QBs throwing 4 ignorant picks. Both guys have to shoulder some blame. No free rides.

I'm no longer worried about the playoffs. If they happen, they happen. I want to see improvement. That includes from the Golden Child at QB. He couldn't have asked for a better invitation to be the hero and he blew it. Period.

Well, I've felt that way from the beginning...to the point where I felt this team could be far better off going 8-8 than if they went 11-5.

I think the good thing is that so far, Gurode at center and Kosier have worked out for us. Even Colombo has played well sans last night and for the most part, the O-Line seems to get beat on missed assignments over being physically taken over. Julius seems to be a legit solid back at the very least, with Barber as a good backup. Glenn and Owens seem to have a lot left in the tank, Crayton is solid and Hurd is promising. And Witten and Fasano are a good TE combination.

That's the good.

The bad is the O-Line keeps missing assignments, Flozell doesn't have much left in the tank and Left Tackles don't grow on trees, and we have no idea what we've got in Romo. And Rivera needs to go as well.

So in my mind, we need to see good play from Romo. Hopefully around an 80-85 QB rating from here on out. We get that, then as long as we keep drafting smartly we are at least staying the course of eventually becoming a good football team.


On the flip side, if Romo flunks out, it's probably going to be a long time before Dallas is ever a real good football team again.

I would like to see Proctor and McQ in the line up now quite frankly-- I've seen enough of Adams and Rivera.

I agree on Romo. If he can have a 75 QB rating this year I would be OK with that.

I'm not judging him. Read my thread last night. I've been asking to see our young QBs for 3 years, and I got my wish.

I am perfectly capable of saying he screwed up last night. He screwed up last night. He wasn't good. That's just being honest. If honesty insults you...oh well.

You detect wrong. I haven't lamented his release even one time (go back and look) and I put the onus on him for not reaching his potential.

I thought the whole thing was handled rather badly and I thought coming out passing right off the bat wasn't the best choice either.

I'm not down on Romo. I'm just being honest. Same as I've been from day 1 with Q, Vinny, Drew, et al. When they play badly I'm not afraid to say it. When they play well, I'm not afraid to say it.

I'm just willing to give the guy more leeway at this point than apparently you are.

Bledsoe has sucked for 14 years-- I'm at least willing to give Romo the rest of the season.

I'm really not insulted by you at all. And yes he did not play well. I ruined my carpet in my living room after the second Romo int, because I hit the table with my fist and my coffee...

He also did make some good things. I'm not totally hopeless for the rest of the season with Romo at starter. I even think playoffs are still possible. But we have to play better on all parts of the game.

He didn't rocket the ball. He tried to throw over Strahan. My guess is that he didn't think a D-Lineman would make a play on that. That's what inexperienced QB's do.

Remember that dog in Garfield? "Odie" I think they called him. We rested our hopes on Tony "Odie" Romo and he was very energetic and his mistakes cost us about 17 points.

I believe a couple things: the Giants secondary was exploitable. We weren't getting anywhere running. The back breaker was Romo's third pick. Till then, we were still in the game.

Eli is still erratic as a QB. He's hit or miss. If we exploited his misses more thoroughly, then we're in the game; we dropped 2 INTs.

But when we switched QBs, it was the right thing to do. Yes, the final game result was embarrassing but when Mister 33 Wonderlic can't follow orders in the red zone and gets picked, something has to be done.

I never give anyone "leeway." When a guy plays well, I give him some praise. When a guy plays badly, I criticize him. Once you reach the Pros, leeway goes out the door.

I agree. I don't like that at all. We were only down five. Run a time or two and let Romo get comfortable. Of course, based on the way our defense played, we had to be aggressive to have any chance.

Anyway I think when you bring a new QB in like that always start with a run.

I just don't see why we have to give it a coat of whitewash to feel better about it.

Did Romo make some rookie mistakes? You bet. However, Romo moved the ball better than Bledsoe... and although we'll never truly know I think Romo did better than Bledsoe would have at moving the ball when the Giants knew we had to pass.

I don't think you should give Romo a pass, but I do believe that Romo gives us a better chance to win because:

He has better pocket presence, he can run around and make plays with his feet;

He gets the ball out quicker.

This will force teams to not sell out on the middle blitz like they could against Bledsoe, because Romo can avoid it and make teams pay.

I don't see Romo as a panacea, but for him to be successful now, he would have to have an all-pro line, and we don't have that.

Romo gives us a chance. He'll have to cut down on his bad decisions, impulse throws.

It is like that guy on death row last week. He chose to commit suicide by cutting his wrists rather than wait to be put to death by lethal injection later in the week. Neither choice is appealing, but one is a little nicer only relative to the other.
