That's right, my band got done recording it's first song.

We did it ghetto style, using a direct box into a laptop. This is easily our slowest song, and in turn our easiest song to record. This is largely in part to the fact that we don't own drum mics, so micing the drums is serving to be a difficult task. If you have any advice in that area please let me know. We're going to be recording all our other songs before we go back to school, all of which are heavier. We may resort to buying a set of drum mics, but none of us have much money.

Let me know what you think. It's just a few 18 year olds messing around in a basement. The quality isn't professional or anything, though we would like to take it to that level one day.

As far as mic'ing the drums... you can buy one decent but cheap mic that'll do the trick. Just position the mic in between the kick and snare. In my band, we sometimes hung the mic from the tom drum. A decent mic that's adjusted properly on the levels should pick up the drums pretty profoundly without picking up the entire room.

No problem.

It'll take some troubleshooting but after moving the mic around a little and changing the input level you should be able to eventually find a nice mix.

Oh and Skins suck.
