My new toy has arrived!

I'd love to learn to play guitar. My problem is that I want to play like Jason Becker, today. Or even Andy McKee - I'm not married to being a metal god. But the odds of me becoming truly great are pretty slim, so I'll always feel unfulfilled because I will always focus on what I can't do.

It's safer not to try, that way I can't suck at it.

Guitars are damned cool though.

I play solely as a hobby. I don't play any songs from start to finish. I just play because I enjoy playing. It seems to remove all the BS of the world while I'm doing it.

Woot!

When you spend a ton of money on a guitar, it should come setup by a professional. Overall it's not that bad except for the action is way to high. The intonation seems to be decent though.

I will just get the thing setup again again. I know a good guy that does it, but he is always booked out three freaking weeks. :(

Very nice. Try not to wake the dead...

That is nice! Like you, I have a Les Paul Studio. I set it all up myself because I have done it before. However, I'm with you on this guitar...have a pro set it up. Intonation is really easy to do, but setting up the action on your guitar probably does not even need it! lol

I'm doing some practice on a Taylor acoustic learning some Christmas songs...Silent Night "and" Joy To The World, one Beatle song, and try not to practice to many Pentatonic scales. lol ... but that is a sweet axe.

I'm a lefty and just got myself my very first guitar this week. I'm on day 4 of practicing.

I've learned a few chords and I'm working on transitioning from chord to chord and doing scales until my fingers nearly bleed. I stop there because I don't want blisters to hinder my ability to practice.

Learning to play has been a dream of mine for years and I'm proud of myself for finally buying myself a guitar and jumping in headfirst.

I didn't buy a great guitar as I couldn't afford to, but it's something that I can learn on. And I'm forcing myself to learn on acoustic. It'll just make playing electric that much easier.

The feeling of finally stringing two clean chords together with only a half second pause between them was a great feeling today. I swelled with pride, and my fingers have never hurt so good.

My drive to learn will far outweigh any lack of "natural ability". I'll be a very good guitarist some day. Every single day, I get better. My hands can contort in ways I never thought they could, and I'm only on day 4. I love to think about where I'll be in 6 months. A year. 5 years.

My advice is to try it. If you don't have the burning desire in it, then don't waste your time. But if you do have that desire, dedicate some time every single day to practicing and see how you feel in 6 months.
