3 Wisconsin players?

So here's my mock then...

2 Clay Matthews ILB USC
3 Fili Moala DE USC
4a Cary Harris CB USC
4b Patrick Turner WR USC
5a Kyle Moore DE/OLB USC
5b Kevin Ellison S USC
6 Kaluka Maiava ILB USC
7a David Buehler K USC
7b Jeff Scweiger DE/OLB San Jose State (transferred from USC)

:)

Well, that's just absurd... a more realistic, and effective, draft would look like this:

1) Brian Orakpo, DE/OLB, Texas... you package the Boys' second, third, both fourths, a fifth and a sixth with Greg Ellis to move up into the top 10 to get him...

5) Quan Cosby, WR/KR, Texas... compensatory pick...

6) Roy Miller, NT, Texas... compensatory pick...

7a) Ryan Palmer, CB, Texas...

7b) Derrick Dockery, OG, Texas...

Championship... :D

Actually, all 5 of those players would stand a good chance of making the 53 man roster...

what did he run at pro day?

A little under 4.4 seconds, from what I've read... a considerable improvement from what he ran at the combine, which IIRC was just under 4.65...

He also did 3 more lifts on the bench than he did at the combine...

You get points for the Fryer pick. He has been very good the past couple of years at WMU. I have a feeling he's going to stick around somewhere.

I am surpised I didn't see more nay-sayers with regards to the value of Ellis and trading him and our traded-for 3rd for a very high second. I would LOVE it, don't get me wrong, but I don't see that much value for Ellis. Perhaps Ellis and Crayton or Hurd?? Also, if we traded up that high I would want to go for one of those OTs.

My 2 cents.

It's definitely wishful thinking, hence the thread title.

Still, the league has been going nuts giving huge contracts to mediocre DE's lately (including the Bengals), and I thought the Zimmer connection might make it happen.

Don't need to be Nostradamus, all you need is COMMON SENSE to figure that one out.
Am I Nostradamus that we won't be picking a T.E./Q.B./R.B. with our top pick also, or is that just COMMON SENSE?

If we trade Ellis we will almost certainly be drafting a DE/OLB very high.

Spencer is on the roster but we have 2 OLB/DE on the roster other than Ellis. So it is a definite need area.

And what has Spencer done to prove he deserves to be a starting OLB? His practice habits and off the field are a concern, his production has been nearly nil and he hasn't been healthy.

The only thing keeping the calls of bust from being attached to him are the fact everyone hates Greg Ellis and we have Barbie Carpenter to really define bust for us.

The guy has 70 total tackles an 4.5 sacks over 2 years. In the same span Ellis has 67 tackles and 20.5 sacks.

The next DE/OLB drafted AFTER Spencer? Lamarr Woodley... in 2 years he has 74 tackles and 15.5 sacks.

A team that wants Ellis will probably need a pass rusher right this second to help them win. A team like the Commanders makes a lot of sense. Or the Patriots.

Someone with lots of picks and a desire to win now.

The Bengals are going to be bad for a while.

All that said as a 3rd down DE Greg Ellis should have legit NFL value, I can see him being traded provided it returns us a DE/OLB.

I keep thinking we will deal Ellis to Carolina. If (once) they lose Peppers they are going to need a quick fix at DE and Ellis would fill that. Plus, he played his college ball at North Carolina and is from there as well.

I'm not saying we will trade him for Peppers. I'm just suggesting they would have an interest in him once they move Peppers.

Could be, depening on who's doing the trading.

A team desperate for pass rush help that didnt get one in round one or two might be very tempted to trade a 3rd for Ellis...someone say like, the Bengals. Or it could be a deal where they (whomever) gives us that fairly high 3rd and we give them Ellis and a late rd pick this yr or next yr.

why would a desperate team a) not have gone after a free agent or b) not just package those picks to move up in the draft and get someone 12 years younger?

I suspect Ellis is at the age (33 now, 34 when the season starts) where he has more value to us than he does to anyone else.

Grant Wistrom.. where is he these days? Vonnie Holliday, whom some trumpeted as a superior Greg Ellis.. What team is he playing with?
