I just don't see how the team has gotten worse through the offseason. The worst spot of the team, the trenches, has received much attention and has improved, IMO. Throw in some luck on the health side of things, and we're back in the playoffs.

I hate to say it, but I'm afraid you may be diluting yourself.

Consider:

1. The Cowboys defense was horrible last year - and they just lost Hatcher and Ware to Free Agency. These two players accounted for 17 of the 34 sacks this team got last year. That is 50% of this teams sacks. The Cowboys are hoping that a combination of guys who spent the majority of their year on IR and a few rookies will not only replace Hatcher and Ware's production, but improve upon it. Let that sink in.

2. It wasn't just an injury plagued defensive line and linebacking core that contributed to this issue. The secondary struggled, as well.

So, here is what you are hoping for: 1. That the injury bug is once again not an issue for about 90% of our defense, as it was last year. 2. That our Free Agent acquisitions whom are all on prove-it contracts will actually in fact prove it. 3. That players such as Claiborne, Carter, Wilcox or other, and a whole host of other players, including the rookies, who have yet to show they have what it takes will simaultaneously prove they do have what it takes. 4. And last and most important, that Romo's back issues are in fact over.

Don't get me wrong. I loved this offseason for the Cowboys. I think they made smart moves...within their cap. I think they made moves that will help the Cowboys in the future. And sure they could completely turn things around this year, stay healthy and compete. But you are setting yourself up for a huge dissappointment if you expect all of those things to happen at the same time.

Yes it is certainly OK. The problem is it is very far from the truth.

Really....so what components have been added that give you hope against this schedule?

Because last year they were 8-8 doesn't mean they will be this year.

Here's my hope. With the league so infatuated with the passing game and defenses adding speed to cope with it, we will unleash the mammoth ground game and trounce everybody. We will lead the league in rushing. On defense, Monty not calling the shots makes us a middle of the road defense at worst, and the offense eating up clock will make a big difference. Romo will hopefully be effective throwing down the field, he should have as much, or more time than last year, and WR's should be running wide open with teams trying to stop the run. If all this comes to fruition we should be able to manage a 9-7, but the egals will take the division.

Tony is the biggest intangible here. Shocking.

Dallas went 8-8 the last three but this years schedule is brutal. I do think they improve and hit 9-7 but if Romo goes down 5-11

Here is my prediction due to a lack of talent on the dline and safety as well as Garrett's weak game management factor (hopefully that improves).

NFC East Record: 3-3

AFC South: 3-1

NFC Conference: 2-4

2014 Prediction: 8-8

Hear's some useless trivia.

Seattle's defense gave up a whopping 13 less ppg last year.

Simplistically (I know it doesn't always work that way) remove 13 points allowed per game by the Dallas defense and they would have been 14-2 last year.

More importantly (but maybe still unrealistic) if the Dallas defense just allowed only 4 points less per game they would have gone 11-5

Lol
Still, before knowing anymore than we do, this looks to me like a team with 7-9 to 10-6 range potential.
That defense has a longs ways to go.

Not any I respect yet. JUst because people get giddy about this team after the draft doesn't mean anything if the people can't play.

This is your opinion and I can't fault that .As to my opinion there will be a couple of keepers at the low end of the draft.
Melton might come through the other two should be better then the FA Selvie type as far as production.
Record might be about the same but they play better later as like last season.

Dallas went 8-8 last few seasons. Don't think they will do worse. I expect them to win 8 to 10 games depending on the injuries etc.

We can't stay at 8-8 indefinitely, and logic suggests we're more likely to go downhill than up. Put me down for 6-10.

Tony's never been the reason this team has only made the playoffs once in his career.

I can just as easily see 6 - 10 as I can see 10 - 6.

A lot depends on the back of Romo. If he's at full strength, he can mask some deficiencies again.

If not, we will be fully exposed.

Of course, the self titled realists will claim anyone predicting more than two wins is a blind homer, so I'm looking forward to that

We will somehow find our way to 8-8. We will win a game or 2 we had no business winning and lose a few we had no business losing. Never fails.
