I just don't see how the team has gotten worse through the offseason. The worst spot of the team, the trenches, has received much attention and has improved, IMO. Throw in some luck on the health side of things, and we're back in the playoffs.
I hate to say it, but I'm afraid you may be diluting yourself.
Consider:
1. The Cowboys defense was horrible last year - and they just lost Hatcher and Ware to Free Agency. These two players accounted for 17 of the 34 sacks this team got last year. That is 50% of this teams sacks. The Cowboys are hoping that a combination of guys who spent the majority of their year on IR and a few rookies will not only replace Hatcher and Ware's production, but improve upon it. Let that sink in.
2. It wasn't just an injury plagued defensive line and linebacking core that contributed to this issue. The secondary struggled, as well.
So, here is what you are hoping for: 1. That the injury bug is once again not an issue for about 90% of our defense, as it was last year. 2. That our Free Agent acquisitions whom are all on prove-it contracts will actually in fact prove it. 3. That players such as Claiborne, Carter, Wilcox or other, and a whole host of other players, including the rookies, who have yet to show they have what it takes will simaultaneously prove they do have what it takes. 4. And last and most important, that Romo's back issues are in fact over.
Don't get me wrong. I loved this offseason for the Cowboys. I think they made smart moves...within their cap. I think they made moves that will help the Cowboys in the future. And sure they could completely turn things around this year, stay healthy and compete. But you are setting yourself up for a huge dissappointment if you expect all of those things to happen at the same time.
