I don’t spend a lot of time on mock drafts, especially before the combine and before FA period.
Though after the combine I still don’t want to spend much time on it.
I used the cbs website rankings, and pick players from there. I try not to spend more than 10 to 15 minutes on them.

1, 19 - Vita Via, DT
2, 50 - Rashaan Evans, MLB
3, 81 - Jamarco Jones, OT
4, 116 - Christian Kirk, WR
4, 137 - Jerome Baker, OLB
5, 171 - Taylor Hearn, OG
5, 173 - TyQuan Lewis, DE
6, 193 - Justin Crawford, RB
6, 208 - Tre Flowers, SS
7, 236 - Chris Warren III, RB, but use as FB.

Ohio state heavy, but I really liked these players where I picked them. There were a few others too but had to make a choice. LOL.
Almost went with a few different players like Hayden Hurst at TE in the 6th, but I do not think we need to be drafting a TE, unless, Hanna is released for cap purposes. But until that happens, I will not select TE's in any mocks. But my choices there were Fumagali or Hurst.

Other players I liked, Sam Hubbard at DE, Poona Ford at DT, Scott Quessenberry at C, but can he play G?
almost picked Jalyn Holmes at DE but went with Lewis instead. I don't think we need to pick any DE's either, if Gregory returns, but that needs to happen, so picked one to replace Mayowa.
Simmie Cobbs at WR was almost my pick as opposed to Warren at RB.

I like the first round pick a lot. However the chance of Evans being available at pick #50 is slim to none imo and I doubt Kirk is still around at pick #50 let alone pick #116. Appreciate anyone though that puts a mock together knowing it might be criticized.

If you stayed with the CBS rankings, then nobody can really complain about players not being available where you picked them because that's the rules that you followed.

Having said that, was Kirk really rated that low? It seems Evans will go earlier but that's not a criticism of your mock because you followed your boundry conditions.

CBS website sucks compared to what it used to be. I read somewhere that the 2guys that used to run it are gone. So it really went down hill.
But it is what I use until I find another site I like. But as I said I don’t want to spend a lot of time on it anyway at this point.

Yes Kirk was that low, I was surprised. I don’t have my list as to what they had him ranked in front of me, but it’s in my notes.

What I try to do, is where ever we pick, in the first two rounds I stay within 5 picks up or down of where they are ranked. 3rd round I may go 10 and so on as each round gets further I widen the range. Especially since comp picks are involved as well.

Nothing scientific just a quick eyeball look.

Yes, I think Brugler is gone from CBS. I saw his paid draft guide last year and it had good info.

5 up or down? When I did the CBS method, with a 5 spot tolerance I could draft a player at 25 that was ranked at 20 or later but if I wanted to draft a player ranked as a 7th, in the 3rd (Trai Turner pre-combine) I could do that within my "rules".

Your CBS ranking still seem more realistic than most simulator type mocks.

Yeah, I guess if you stated your guidelines in advance, it's fair.
Impossible maybe, but you followed your rules

CBS rankings are pretty comical this year.
DJ Moore as the 10th best WR.
Calvin Ridley ad the 5th best?
St Brown as the 24 th best WR?
:omg:

Glad your back
Post up thread have made the point about these selections.
It would be the mother of all Cowboy drafts.

Yeah, everyone has their way of doing these things. I been doing it this way for years. It is straight forward to me, and I don't get tied to certain players or manipulate it the way I want it to come out. Kind of like a draft board..these are the payers left in this range as to your selections. So can't have a 28th ranked player drop to 50 just because that is what I want to do.
Unless in the 6th or 7th round, I may get a bit out of range over my plan. LOL.

My only flaw is that being an Ohio State fan I know the players, but I try not to let that influence me too much. But can't deny that it does sometimes.

I get it. I remember even starting threads with draft games saying use a fixed ranking like CBS and in some, even a draft trade value chart.
Just to keep people from coming up with crack-pupe mock drafts

The problem here is the rankings are so bad at CBS this year tnat you end up with a more unrealistic draft than the one we try to avoid

At least there were rules

Defense. Running game. That's my type of draft.

Keep Warren at RB. Nothing wrong with having a bruiser smash thru DBs while Zeke is drinking water.
