MY take on Henson/Romo

I have been reading all of the Henson/Romo threads for a while now and I would like to give my two cents on the matter. First of all, I just want what is best for the Cowboys, just like everyone else here. That being said, I favor Henson in the competition. The reasons being, we gave up a third rounder for him, he has way more upside, can make all of the throws and most importantly to me at least, he has done everything he can to get better. Watching the Cardinal game, what stuck out to me was that his decision making was very much improved and he threw the ball away when there was nothing there.

In regards to Romo, I think he is a decent QB, but what really sticks in my craw is reading these articles in the off season about him trying to make the golf tour. I think if you want to successful in the league, you need to concentrate on your main job (which is being a pro QB, not golfing). I know he made every offseason workout and everything and if he wants to play golf during his leisure time, fine, but don't let it interfere with your main job.

Maybe I'm a little old school in my thinking (after all, I'm 34) and if Romo wins the backup job, I'm OK with that, I just want what is best for the Cowboys. I just think that if Romo has to come in and play for a few games, we would not be able to stretch the defense if necessary and we would be more limited on offense. However, if Henson were to come in, the offense would not be as limited because Henson can make the throws that Romo can't( the deep outs and deep ins, so on).

Well, this is just my two cents, I know not everyone will agree with me but that is what these message boards are for. :D

So where did golfing interfere with football? Do you have any proof what so ever? If golf was getting in the way of football, why isn't it showing up in practice?

All the players have lives outside of football. They watch DVDs. They play Playstation. They hang out with wife and kids. They chase girls. The only thing that seperates Romo from them is he's so remarkable in what he does off the field that it gets mentioned in newspapers, so it becomes messageboard fodder for bored football fans in June.

He obviously didn't let golfing interfere with his off-season workouts, so why in the world would you let it bother you? ALOT of NFL players golf....do you feel the same way about them?

Again....Romo played golf....so what? Did he miss ONE workout? No! So how can you say that it interfered with his job?

I don't agree with your reasons at all. However, you are just expressing your personal preference and you can have whatever reasons you want for doing so. At least you, first and foremost, want whatever is best for the Cowboys. Props to you.

Myself, I have stayed out of most of the threads because I don't really have a preference. If I had to put money on who the best long-term QB will be, I'd bet on Henson.

But most of the debate is centered around this season. Therefore, I just want the best QB right now out there. Whether it's Romo or Henson backing up Bledsoe or taking his job away, I don't care.

You're not offering opinions in this thread in regard to football ... so please remind us once again why you're any less of an instigator than Nors or Banned?

You put Henson before Romo in your acronym. That's garbage!

These guys are still competing for acronym ordering.

You didn't strike a nerve, but you did inadvertantly answer my question.

Could this have anything to do with Hensons contract ?

Wild theory, probably...lol

Capologist and contract people correct me if I'm wrong, but doen't Hensons contract void a bunch of years if he plays in over 20% of the offensive snaps hist 1st 2 years here ?

Last year, he didn't do it, now we are into the 2nd year.

Bledsoe won't lead us into the promised ground, if he does, you can put that "Crow" avitar by my name...I'll gladly take it for a superbowl win. Bledsoe is tough and rarely miss's games. he will start much of this year, with maybe a slice of Romo Henson here and there.

Next year, 2006, is when we can play Henson full time and keep 5 years of his 7 year contract intacted. Then, whoever plays best can start.

Under "this theory", Henson could be the best and play the best and still not get the starts this year. Before you all get your guns out, just remember that I did not say he was or is playing the best now, just that if he was, he still might not start or be #2.

Let me clarify, unless I read those articles all wrong, it just seemed to me that Romo was trying to make a golf tour, not a single tournament and it just rubbed me the wrong way. If I'm wrong, and it was just a single tournament then I don't have a problem with that. I was just basing my opinion on what I thought I had read in previous articles.

I just was stating my preference for who I would like to be the backup and listed the reasons and I stand by those reasons, not cause a fight. :fight: I was just giving my opinion on the golf thing, not saying it was established fact.

The main point of my post was to say, that yes, I prefer Henson as the backup, but if Romo wins the job, I'm ok with it. Until Parcells says the competition is over, I think Henson still has a shot for the job and I will pull for him, but I also will not wish for Romo to fail miserably either. I have said it before and I will say it again, I want the Dallas Cowboys to succeed and if it turns out that Romo becomes the backup, then great, and if Henson wins it, then that's great too. I was just stating my preference, that's all.

My attitude has always been, I want the Cowboys to succeed and win another championship. Nothing more, nothing less.
