To much negativity lately so here:

Dallas has this as our Oline.....

LT- A Beast of a pass blocker, who is deaf in one ear.
LG- A very solid guard that Detroit simply let walk.
C- One of the best at his position, and we was widely considered a bust at first.
RG- A solid LT, who was also a bust but turned into one of the best G's in the league
RT- A very tough RT who was written off as injury prone, and a bust.

And yet we have one of the best lines in the pros.

A partially def LT, a G who wasnt good enough for Det, and 3 "busts"

 Good job Jerrah. Give credit where it is due. :starspin

The only reason Gurode might have been considered a bust was he wasn't placing his best position. The coaches were trying to make him a guard.

That's partially correct Yeag. He was also having trouble making the right line calls when he was backing up Johnson. But overall, I agree with you.

I would also throw in the fact that he was influenced, at the time, by players who were not necessarily the best role models. They are all gone now and once they departed, I think Gurode kinda woke up and realized that he needed to do things a bit differently, to his credit I would add. JMO of course.

I would also add that I hope Gurode snapped 76,295 balls this summer to practice getting the ball back to Romo!

you don't have to do much to be considered a bust around here. Heck just being drafted can make you a bust.

I thought Gurode's biggest issue at Center was not being able to get the line calls down. I think it just took him a couple of years to learn the position on a pro level.

I loved hearing Flo came in under weight as well.

That was a good one.

And so true.

Unfortunately you're right. Unfortunately those people don't want to hear that.

Good assessment on the line. Many people downplay Kosier performance at guard, but how fair is that to him having to come to dallas and replace Larry Allen, oh yeah and before that Nate Newton. Dallas has been very fortunate to have Nate and Larry. I don't know of a guard who could replace Larry Allen. I understand Larry was getting to the end of his career but still the guy was/is a beast. I wish we could see a line of Adams, Allen, Gurode, Davis, Colombo even if it was only for one game.

By his last couple of seasons here, LA was just about immobile. He could still blow people away close up, but he could not move. It was time.

Gurode: apparently influenced by Torrin Tucker for some reason. Once he was gone Gurode really woke up. The guy is very smart (got A's in engineering in school) so it always amazed me he had so much trouble with calling the coverages.

Kosier: pretty mobile, good downfield blocker who is weak at the point. Exact opposite of LA.

Bigg- if he had been in a good franchise playing guard all this time he would be considered one of the best in the league for years.

Colombo- no one but BP was willing to take a chance on him- maybe the second best player move BP did here (first was protecting Romo during the Hutch/Henson fun and games).

and then he promptly goes to the hated Niners, has a great yr and makes the probowl

it wasnt quite "time"...it was just Parcells being a dope

Do you really think he had a great year and made it to the Probowl based on his play? I'm really asking.

he was a big reason Gore had such a huge yr...Norv Turner said Allen really played well that yr...I'm sure he wasnt the same Larry Allen as he was in his prime here, but he was good

Good at what? He seemed very limited his last year here, but maybe it was just his ankle.

I just assumed he made it to the Probowl in SanFran for the same reason he made it here his last year--name recognition.... I don't usually watch many Niners games.

Don't forget: the line got 2 times better after the Cowboys switched from Bledsoe to Romo.

Could you imagine this (or any) line trying to block for that statue Bledsoe?

I didnt see alot of their games, but the bits and pieces of the one's I did see he played well...and the coaching staff there said he played well too

Allen's biggest problem was Parcells coming in.

Parcells wanted to run a blocking scheme that wasn't suited to Larry Allen's strengths. He also didn't want any veteran players who didn't completely buy into everything he said.

When Allen went to San Francisco and back into a Norv Turner offense, it was a perfect fit once again. That offense played to his strengths and hid his weaknesses.

He'd probably be a good fit back in Houck's line if he had anything left.
