Im going to start with the elephant in the room. Ezekiel Elliot getting black balled or not, put alot of attention on himself for being young and foolish. Knowing the NFL was investigating him he stayed in the story lines for a yr. Right or wrong he would've been smart to lay low. And while the outcome sucks, the judge that ruled was 100% correct. While this case is obviously unjust the NFL has followed its guidelines by the letter of the CBA. The players union agreed to this and with that the NFL can do what it feels is best for the league. And by the letter of the CBA its 100% legal. As fans we see it as normal people and say he wasnt charged so why is he being suspended. Because the NFL is not going to tolerate anything involved with DV because society we live in will crucify the league. Right or wrong this is the world we live in.

I cant see how McFadden would start because for one he has been inactive all yr, if he was the better back i think he would be active or even active over Smith. second, McFadden cant or wont pass block. Ask Romo's back if you need references. I think this Elliot situation is the only reason McFadden is still on the team.

This situation will open up the run game some, because teams are going to play the pass first now until Dallas can prove they can run without Elliot. Alfred and Smith have a combined 23 carried for 174 yrds for a 7.56 yrds per carry avg. Take away 115 yrds on 2 carries which are their combined longest runs, you have 21 carries for 59 yrds. And i think thats more in line what we are looking at. So Dak and his WRs need to get on the grind and get in tune.

Dez needs to step up and just shut up and play. Seems like every week he's on the sidelines complaining about something. Yes he's missed on some plays where he's open. But the plays he cant get open are way more in numbers. Play and keep focused and i think he'd be a focal point that could help carry the team.

Tyron really needs to get his focus in order. He is literally one of the most penalized players in the league. We dismiss it because he a superstar for this OL. But he has killed alot of drives this yr with his penalties. Nobody is above critique and he really needs to get it together.

Joe Baker IMO needs to be fearing for his job. Dallas is 5th in the NFL in sacks, so all this theres no pressure should be a non issue. Dallas is getting alot of pressure. Its just seems like Baker has the team playing too soft.

Anthony Brown has to be the worst CB in the league. When teams need a 3rd down or a TD they go right at Brown and the chains are moved. And there doesnt seem to be any adjustment. How he was getting beat week 1 he's still getting beat the same way in week 8.

Why Dallas hasnt gone out and picked up a CB i have no idea. Awuzie hasnt been able to get over a hammy, Lewis seems to be playing thru one but seems limited. As does Scandrick. Brown is the only healthy guy and he's bad.

The DL which so many thought was a weak link is coming along very well. Lawrence and Irving are dominating anybody they go up against. Collins Has basically been pushed aside by Irving. and rightfully so. Too Bad this team had questions on the DL and suspensions that they were forced to draft Charlton.

The Lber core is settling down some but still needs a little work. The biggest problem they have really isnt their fault as the MIKE is getting swallowed up by the interior OL because they dont have a true 1tech. Ash had a nice play but he's a scrub. Dallas needs a legit 1tech.

La'el Collins is struggling some but he's winning alot more than he's losing. He will be fine

Jonathon Cooper is settling in damn good, and i think Dallas found a starter for the next 5-6 yrs. He seems to be getting chemistry with Tyron and Frederick. That and he seems to be moving alot better than he was even this yr. When a player actually gets healthy and has confidence he has come back from his injury its a beautiful thing. He took that opening Green gave him with a injury and took the job.

Right now Dallas is in a state of confusion with the Elliot situation and as much as the team tries to say they are moving forward its a huge distraction. This could define Dak's career if he can pull the team together and put them on his back and lead the ship. Its gonna be interesting hopefully come week 15 Dallas is still in the hunt.

My biggest worry leaving training camp was Green/Cooper. That is a big plus in my "to worry about categories".
I'd draft a D1 in the first round but I know that's not Marinelli's way.
Not sure way you think we dont need another DE [Charlton} if Irving has pushed Collins to D1 then .........

Agree with a lot of what you have to say, so here are the few points I have an issue with:

According to Broaddus and several other scout-type folks I've read/heard, McFadden hs always been an exceptional pass protector. Broaddus says he the best pass blocking RB on the team outside of Zeke.

As for a CB, who was available at the deadline that Dallas could have acquired without giving up a premium pick? I think they have committed to letting the young guys earn their stripes, and without knowing what other teams were asking for, I have to agree with that philosophy.

Finally, I wish people would shut up about Dez shutting up. In all fairness (to him) we have no idea what he was doing on the sideline Sunday. It could have been, as Garrett implied, positive encouragement rather than whining about his role. Face it, when have we ever seen Dez do anything in a calm and peaceful manner? It's just not in his DNA.

Good post, nonetheless.

If you have seen the clip on DC site, Dez was very positive and encouraging. As usual, a lot gets made of him being excited on the sideline and the announcers ALWAYS want to call him out on it, but they are wrong about what he is saying and it isn't the first time. Sad that it gets repeatedly broadcast that he is complaining about not getting the ball and it just isn't what is happening. He tries to fire up the team more than any single player on that sideline.

McFadden has always been considered a plus pass protector, not sure where Latin is getting that he is poor. In fact, many people pointed to his ability in that regard as the reason he was playing ahead of Morris last year. I think Morris has improved some there and as a pass catcher but isn't in McFadden's class at either. He is a better fit in the zone running, so we are likely to see him more as a ball carrier than we will McFadden.

I am also willing to bet that McFadden and Morris will average more than 3 yds per carry as suggested by the OP. Funny that you want to take away their two long runs to get to that. Do we take Zeke's long runs out when we look at his average? Why not give them 15 yds on each carry so they aren't completely skewed? That would be 23 for 89 yds, close to 4 ypc. I'd venture to guess that would be closer to what they get.

I think the early season lack of running was more to do with the OL not being in sync and they are working that out, especially since Cooper took over at LG.

The secondary right now is the biggest issue, and the fact that we have gone to much more zone coverage has taken more time to get comfortable than expected. I don't think anyone outside of Lewis has really played up to par in pass coverage and now that Lee is back he is helping some in that regard.

This week, we cannot afford to get killed by Kelce or the backs out of the backfield.

Good stuff. I agree that 1-tech and a starting CB are our biggest problems right now. Oh, and not having Zeke for 6 games. Hopefully Awuzie gets healthy and can beat out Brown. But two starting rookie CBs sounds scary, especially if the rookie Woods beats out Heath.

Much of this is completely wrong.

McFadden is a good blocker and has been much better at it than Morris.

Brown is not terrible.

That's one of McFadden's strengths which is why they used him a lot on 3rd down. Morris has been pegged as a runner but can do little else including block or catch a pass.

Morris has caught a few passes this year which is more than he was advertized to be able to do. It's good to know he can do it on occasion.

Where we disagree. Dez is making 70mil he needs to bethe first guy to step up. Paid like a superstar, play like one.
Beasley will need to step up in order to supplement the short yardage running game. He should be getting 6-7 catches a game. The fact that he only has 18 catches in 7 games is a low key disturbing stat about this season. Dez is what he is at this point. Everyone wants him to be Fitzgerald when in reality he's more Boldin. I liked the way they used him last game.
