Ive come to terms that JG needs to go, but Linehan and his mess needs to go more. Now im not basing my judgment on that 4 down. Basically because Zeke hadnt shown all night that he would've gotten it. WAs a 50/50 shot. But, I just dont see anything different in the offensive plays being called. Same types of routes that are ran and ran right at DBs that make it easy to cover. The orst thing about this is Dallas doesnt have the strong WR who can make this type of route work with putting his body between the ball and defender. JG's time needs to come to an end. Jerry which i dont think hes capable of but needs to realize his choice as HC was wrong. Players bought into his ways for yrs, but i think we are starting to see them start to question him. This actually happened with Phillips, slowly then just all out mutiny. I could live with JG if they just brought in somebody to replace Linehan. But its doubtful and almost impossible to do that inseason because well all these coaches already have jobs. I think this is the end of the road for both possibly, but for sure Linehan is gone at seasons end and possibly before.
Jaylon Smith is 100% back. And he's so much better as a WILL. I dont think you take him out and replace him with Sean Lee. Before Lee went out he wasnt playing too good anyways. Jaylon and Lawrence are the guys you need to build this defense around. Vander Esch is a tackling machine, but im still not sold on him being a impact yet. Most of his tackles are coming from behind the play. And in most running plays he's catching up to a run that went past him. We are seeing it less, but its still a problem. Think he still isnt 100% comfortable with his past neck injuries. IMO you see this with him still wearing that big guard under his shoulder pads that keeps his head and neck from going to far in a direction. But still you can tell the game is slowing down and he's seeing the play faster. Encouraging sign.
Dak is good and bad, but unless ur a MVP type QB you're going to get a QB who is good and bad on a weekly basis. In the first drive he did miss Beasley for a first that resulted in the FG. But you have to put urself in his shoes and realize thats a long throw with the CB closing in that could easily be a pick 6 another 50/50 play. On the other side you got Elliot on a screen which most of the time is a easy first down and that close you kind of expect a TD, HOU player just made a very good tackle. Looked like hurns should've actually ran more interference on LB who made tackle. And going back to Beasley it looks like Dak expected him to break that route off faster. Dak had already looked the other way before beasley had made his break. Tells me the break shouldve come sooner. Or the primary was the screen, as you're not going to wait that long for Beasley when you have a screen on the other side. Beasley knowing the play shouldve known to break his route earlier. The difference between the two QBS lastnight was the playcalling. On one side you had an attacking set of plays being called. On the other side you had a guy calling the same 4-5 passing plays. Dak misses some throws but this FO did him no favors in leaving him with this group of guys he's got.
Dallas secondary is very good when they play up on WRs but start to allow the inside throws when they play off because the S help isnt where it should be. If you go back and look at Hopkins big plays its all against off coverage.
This DL is going to be scary next week with Irving and Collins coming back. I think we are going to see some turnovers coming. Lawrence didnt see the same after he got nicked up early in the game. He wasnt facing constant double teams either. Tyrone Crawford is making himself valuable to this team, and i think we see an extension for his coming this offseason that will lower his cap hits but give him more guaranteed money. He's hitting his prime.
This game was won by a coaching staff who went out and took the game, rather than being like the other coaching staff that played not to lose the game in overtime. Plain and simple. Both offenses dig good and bad things, but at the end of the game the coaching staff of the Texans gave his QB the best chance to win. There are problems with this team on the roster, but the biggest problem holding this team are guys with headsets walking the sideline and one up in the boxes calling plays. Think we might see Richards HC next yr. he has a progressive style of coaching that his group responds to.
