let me ask you did he draft Johnny Football? or did he just want to draft Johnny Football
.If he wanted to draft Johnny but listened to his council and followed the guide line
of his decision when he created the council. Then what is dumb about making
the right decision?

Johnny a d said himself he had to be talked out if
think about it . Is not Martin the right decision?

I think Martin is the right decision but I think the poster does have a point. Martin was literally the last consideration for us and even then, if you can believe the stories, Jerry had to be restrained from taking Manziel. We wanted Donald, Shazier and Barr, reportedly, and would have taken any of those guys ahead of Martin. The year before, we wanted Anzah, Cooper, Lotulelei and Vacarro, reportedly, ahead of FredBeard.

I think you have to acknowledge the fact that some of those decisions were the result of others but I do believe that Jerry should be credited with bringing in the guys who knew enough to take Martin and Fredbeard. He should receive credit for that IMO.

various:

Romo being limited early may have been best for the team and his self.
It did force us to rely on the running game and that has allowed the team and Romo to see the formula to consistent W's.
Romo did plenty Sunday but it's the first time he opened it up much.
He was just deadly in every way.

Mo is sad. I hope he doesn't turn into Marty B. --A high pick we got right but failed to wait out.
Good news is we've got depth at CB.

The LB corps has been well above expectations.
If they can get through the season without any more major injuries that group has real potential.
McClain is simply a physical throwback player. Dude is big and nasty.

Dez is limited. He's probably limited to being the 2nd best WR in football. lol.

The OL was heavily invested in and it is paying off. Those dudes demoralize people.
Tyron tossed some poor guy about 15 yards with a shove. It was unreal. I can't say I've seen that since Larry Allen
.

I absolutely agree with the bold comments.

If we hit on DLaw there will be a lot of mad fans and mediots. :)

I gave him credit for making the pick, but not all.of the credit for drafting a player I as a fan wanted in Martin. My point was that he shouldn't get full credit, because he was tempted to make another splash/rash decision over what the majority of his advisors thought was the best FOOTBALL decision.

Jerry himself said he's a gambler and gambler often go.off hunches and not sound logic. TO case and point. Signing a player the coach didn't want. Or hiring an OC before a head coach. These are just a few examples that defy sound football logic and there are other examples but too many to name.

Let's not act like Jerry isn't what he is, a gambler more so than trained football evaluator. If you see him for what he really is, it's easier to accept that others deserve credit for HELPING jerry make the right choice AND a lot of it for preventing him for screwing it up.

Again, the point I was making is Jones made a business plan to operate by committee. Whatever Jones wanted he did not do.
The planned committee consensus prevailed That was Jones creation.

Great obs, but slow your roll.on the GM Jones love. If I'm not . mistaken he had to be strongly convinced to.draft Fredbeard and Martin. I know he wanted Johnny Football and they were set.to draft Shaker before Pitt drafted him. I'll also go as far as to say, this team was not his vision. Jerry has wanted nothing to do with a run. First offense. He's too busy trying to.sell tickets behind an entertaining passing attack. I'll credit Will and Stephen more. Will for identifying the talent lately and Stephen for talking Jerry down on his initial urges.

The rest are great obs.
"Slow your roll on the GM Jones love", or maybe ease up on the Jones hate? Somewhere in between I guess.

I told everybody that this game wasnt going to be 2013. Dallas pounded that defense into the ground. The OL demoralized the Saints defense by the end of the first quarter. You could see it in their faces. For all the flack Jerry gets, he has drafted the best OL in the NFL in the last 4 yrs. Smith, Fredrick and Leary in the same yr, and Martin this yr. The pocket Romo has and the holes Murray has are just a thing of beauty. Romo drops back to pass there is literally nobody within 5 yrds of him. This team will do this to any of the 31 other NFL teams.

Im going to openly say that i sold Romo short. The guy has evolved his game to the next stage in his career. Taking what the defense gives you and handing the ball off to Murray. I think Romo has come to terms with his limitations and understands the weapons he has.

Murray has taken the lead on offense. Everything starts with him. I noticed that he is still holding the ball away from his body at times but he has switched his finger from under the ball to griping the point of the ball. That alone will secure the ball, and the proof that that alone works just look what it did for Tiki Barber's career. Murray is 150 yrds ahead of the closest RB. He is killing it this yr.

Finally a Wr took the rewards of Dez getting so much attention. Actually two, TW and Witten made the defense pay for doubling Dez early. But they then went single coverage on Dez and he pretty much got shut out. Thats concerning to me. Dez just doesnt seem like a complete WR. He wont adjust his routes and he doesnt seem to be willing to help out Romo when in trouble. I think Dez price could be falling. Not alot but i dont think he's worth CJ money. Nowhere close.

Bruce Carter is a man amongst boys this yr. He is blowing people up, defending the pass and blitzing that a man possessed,. His injury sure played a big role in the yrds Dallas gave up at the end of the game. We saw the big difference between Carter on the field and Wilber. And after seeing that i hope Carter isnt out for any amount of time.

Shame on the Cowboys for trying to turn Crawford into a DE.

I would love for Crawford to add 8-10 lbs and have him line up with Melton in the starting lineup. Nobody is going to tell me Crawford cant handle the double team. He did it plenty yesterday and still pushed it back and got pressure and played good vs the run. Melton and Crawford together would cause nightmares for OCs.

It all wasnt good yesterday. Those that were trying to say Wilcox wasnt as bad as people thought,, i really hope you paid attention to him this week. When NO needed a completion they went to Wilcox. He doesnt tackle but rather just launches himself into players and he just doesnt seem to know what he's doing. Takes bad angles and seems lost.

Feel bad for MO being hurt but im glad he is off the field. And thats being 100% honest.

Jason Garrett seems like a good coach now with 2 coordinators who know what they have in players and know how to use them. Thats what all the great coaches had. Its not about the HC making all the decisions but about allowing and trusting your coaches to do what they do best.

Spencer is going to be back full strength soon. Said he felt no discomfort and wasnt really tired either. So thats saying the guy was working hard on his conditioning.

I do not believe that Romo has come to understand his limitations, he has just finally been put in a situation where he does not have to be the gangbusters hero every damn down and weekend. Kinda like where Wilson is with the Seahawks only we only have the offensive pieces in place right now. 2015 is our yr to roll...

I wonder what would have happened if the team had been able to draft the LSU OG in the third round as they actually tried to do?

Then he would be a backup, because nobody was going to unseat Leary. He's a road grader.

Very nice OP LM, but I disagree on the Dez comments. True he is no CJ, but who is.
Dez is still near top of the list. If he wasn't doing his routes, selling them even in double coverage, many of those plays, rather run or pass would not have worked.
A WR has many more assignments rather he is or is not the main target.

And the comment about Mo, being gone, not good. Never good to be glad a player is injured and gone. Even if he was demoted to 4th CB, that is still valuable NFL experience that was lost for the year.

My on criticisms i have about him is he doesnt adjust his routes the way most elite WRs do. If he did he would have alot more production

Whether Jerry drafted the offensive linemen is debateable, but as the GM, he gets the credit.

I think you should tap the brakes on Dez. Sometimes the gameplan (pounding the defense into submission with the best run blocking line in football) doesn't lend itself well to a WR taking over the game. Hard to do that when you're rushing for like 6 ypc with ease. You also have to understand that even in "single coverage" most of the time they were still rolling a safety over to his side of the field. Thankfully Romo didn't want to risk those throws against a team like the Saints who can get back into the game in a hurry. When Dez did get true one on one coverage, he beat it easily for a TD.

When Tony sees his quarterback ratings start to climb into all career levels, I think Tony will enjoy a much better selection for receiver process.
A team who gets beat up in the box area, starts to become more predictable to some types of patterns thrown. The Dallas receivers exploit these opportunities just as well now, as did Troy Aikman with the Trilogy.

Nothing wears a linebacker out more, than have to both run to catch a ball carrier, and then attempt to defend a receiver that's holding his lunch.
