IM going to start off with the elephant in the room and the Romo/Dak situation. Always believed Romo was damaged goods. There only so many hits the body is going to take before it says enough is enough. Thats not saying that Romo is garbage, the guy is a warrior and played through pain throughout his career. But he's no spring chicken anymore. Its time to turn the page and let him walk away while he can still walk. Reminds me of Danny Whites career, very good QB but never had the team to get it done. When he did they came up short. Romo had 2 legit shots at a championship and that was 2007 and 2014. Theres a new guy in town and his name is Dak. I just dont see him giving the team the chance to give Romo back the job. Unless he bombs but i dont see that happening. The guy knows the system and can run it very well. We've seen him tear up a good miami defense, and play a seattle team to a tie in the first half. Dak is still a work in progress but he's shown he's a starting QB in the league, something the QBs drafted ahead of him havent even shown glimpses of. Now thats not saying Dak is a project, he's a legit starting NFL QB, he's just only going to get better. Theres something he's got going for him that you can never coach, and thats the trust of the star vets he's going to have to lead on sundays. Enjoy what ur seeing now because its the start of the new era, and this team is really young.

RB spot has never once worried me, now with Morris and Jackson showing up in PS, along with MR everything Elliot this team is going to put fear in defenses. IDC what team theyre playing, there is not a team in the NFL that will stop them in short yardage IMO. Long drives, wearing out defenses. Ugly pop you in the mouth football is back. Ive grown tired of spread offenses, gimmick offenses that the NFL has turned into. I cant see a way that McFadden is on the team week 1 because i just cant see this team risk losing Jackson. And i see Dunbar starting the yr on PUP.

WR is a spot that you fall in love with one play and they break your heart the next with a drop. This team has 4 targets Dez, Witten, TW, Beasley and in that order. Sprinkle in Butler and Whitehead in returns and that rounds out a group that does what you expect to. Big plays, good plays, bad plays. You just have to take the good with the bad.

TE i know i mentioned Witten in the WR group basically because He's DAL #2 target. After him i see alot of nothing. Its not the players fault tho. DAL has blown this group drafting. They draft a guy made to create mismatches against LBers or S and then dont play him because he doesnt block the way you want. When drafting you knew that wasnt his game. Thats not on the player thats bad drafting. Escobar will be playing on another team soon and if he lands in GB or NE or CAR you are going to see a mismatch machine. Everytime DAL has used Escobar in that type of role he's scored TDs or got a big first down. Those chances are just in between because thats not DAL style of football.

This OL is the best in the NFL and its not even close. Dallas has found its swing tackle in Green its back up C/G in Looney and its backup G in Leary. Theres your 8 active linemen on gamedays.

DE until this team gets Lawrence and Gregory back this team will have to live with the good and bad. Any good from the DEs and that will be a bonus. Too man unknowns because these guys are still a mystery. Dallas still doesnt know what it has in Tapper, Irving is showing a little something and Russell is garbage he should be cut. McAdoo has some speed and Moyawa is a mystery. The one guy who has shown anythig consistent has been Jack Crawford. Think Him and Irving will be starters week 1.

DT is not a weakness anymore. Crawford, MCClain, Thornton, Collins, Coe i think will go into wk 1. This group will have to lead this DL for the first 4 weeks. Collpase and pressure up the gut helping out the DE and allowing them to use their speed, because they arent going to have the strength to get thru tackles.

LB is another spot that gives no idea whats there other then Lee. Hitchens hasnt really been good since his rookie yr. Yeah he plays out of posistion he's a WILL playing SAM and i say same because Durant will be starting MIKE. Then just a bunch of JAGS behind them. This team really needs Jaylon to come through.

Secondary IMO is the bright spot in this defense. Scandrick has come back and been his normal aggressive physical self, while Carr is still Carr, wont ever be able to cover them Quick routes. The suprise is how physical Claiborne has come out. He's all over the field and hes doing alot of things he wasnt before. JOnes starting at FS has improved this defense so much allowing Church to do what he does best and thats play up on the LOS. JUst getting Wilcox off the field improved the defense alone.

This this team will have a hiccup here and there but i think they win the NFCE and make a run this yr.

Thanks for sharing your thoughts. I enjoyed the read. It's a shame that we haven't been hitting often enough in the later rounds. Our team is shallow and has a few holes because of it.

I think you're way too high on Dak right now. I love the guy and am stoked that he's done so well to this point. But asking a rookie to keep a guy like Romo on the bench doesn't feel reasonable to me. It's my hope, but I don't expect it to happen.

TWill and Beasley need to step up. Having Dez back will help, but they even struggled with single coverage at times.

I think our pass rush could really do us in. Our defense was subpar (bad down the stretch) with Hardy and Lawrence, who wasn't double teamed often. Now we have neither for 4 weeks and Lawrence will be getting much more attention. Our seconday has potential and we better hope they play up to it.

I wouldn't hold your breath for Jaylon Smith. I will be jumping for joy if he starts week one next season. I'm not sure how likely that is, even.

Ive been high on Dak, hes the best QB in this class and its not even close. He dropped because he had inferior talent around him but he changed football for that program. Thats whats wrong with todays nfl, so many qb busts in the top of the draft because they seem to draft numbers from gimmick offenses in college. Then theyre getting drafted by bad teams and they destroy their careers. And im high on Dak because at no point when Romo went down did i say season over. And everybody in media and even the team had the same sound clip. LOsing Romo is big but you have a young QB who just looks like he can run the offense the way they need it. Is he a probowler? Right now no, but nobody thought Wilson was as good as he is either. Dallas couldnt go into another season holding its breath that Romo wouldnt get hurt. It good it happened now so Dallas can get its young gun in and run with him. He's not coming in thwon into the lions den. The guy will have a system prepared and he will run it.

Last yr Dallas had no way to control the clock, hell they couldnt even form a decent drive. When teams know ur offense isnt going to do anything they can run vanilla and make it work. Because they know theres nothing on the other side that scares them. The team has said this, its fthat fans dont listen and think ok the defense is just bad. Theyre not as bad it seemed in 2015. Dallas gives up yrds, but their starters give up more fgs then tds. Ill take it.

He will be starting week 1 next yr. Book it

Im expecting wither a Teddy Bridgewater( take care of the ball but play very conservative) or Derek Carr ( more aggressive game plan with a major blend of good and bad) type rookie performance from Prescott. It will be good enough to feel secure that he is our guy. But not good enough to keep Romo on the bench

Can you imagine if he were good enough to keep Romo on the bench as a rookie?

People are excited, but getting a bit carried away.

Danny White had the team, its was one great throw/catch and a missed tackle that prevented him from going to the SB.

In those days, San Fran and Dallas were equals at almost every position group except QB. Montana was special.

Right? I don't know if these people making these Dak called shots grasp the magnitude of what they are saying. We're talking Kurt Warner levels of flukes, all-time historic level...

Romo, on the other hand, never could even get a whiff of a win in the second round of the playoffs.

LM I wish you were correct and that makes me feel like a turn coat. IMO, I don't believe Garrett will keep Romo on the bench.Red is a traditionalist
and he'll say the starter doesn't lose his job due to injury. Romo's early injury was the best thing that could have happened for this team however.
Next year Dak will be more seasoned plus this year who can say that Romo won't get hurt again.

I always enjoy your posts, but I think we should let Dak play some games first before we say he's gonna keep Romo on the bench. Remember, it takes a lot to read defenses pre-snap and get into the right plays. When Romo was younger, he wasn't doing that and was relying on his physical abilities. He didn't develop that till later.

Do I feel better about the back up position this year compared to last year, yes. But I'm being cautiously optimistic because I know that the learning curve is always steep for rookie QBs. I really, really hope that Dak plays well and we start the season with a W. I'm just concerned that people are being too optimistic here. It's kinda of weird. :)

The curtains are about to be drawn and the show is about to begin we will see soon enough what Dak has and can do if Romo is talking to him he needs to listen . It's show time!

Old LM
Doing his weekly disrespect Romo routine.
Year after year after year after year....same ol.....stuff

At some point, like the broken clock, he will eventually be right for once.
Nobody can play forever and Romo's time is approaching sometime in the next couple years.

The first 4 weeks we should be alright. I don't think any of those teams are great. They are all flawed, some more then others. If we can generate any pressure from the DL or blitzing we should be able to do alright. The next two games are round and I'd imagine we'd be happy with a split with Romo under center. Unless something major goes wrong or right I'd expect Romo back no later then the Eagles games.

Basically we have all the pieces of an elite offense right now, except the QB. Hopefully Dak can do enough to produce 21 ppg with all the pieces he has. If we get into that range we should be in every game, and at an advantage in games 3 and 4 I think.
