This is what I would love seeing...

trading down in the first and adding the accumulated picks and even pick(s) from the future, to acquire in the first round:

*A'Shawn Robinson#1 DT

*Robert Nkemdiche #3 DT

...then rely upon the already drafted Gregory and Lawrence to be what is expected at DE.

I don't think we need to waste resources on a 3 tech at this point. Get a stud 1 tech and I think Crawford, when healthy, is more than competent enough for the 3 tech spot.

On a team that has the needs it has, I think taking two DTs high would be overkill.

I am ok with selecting DT's high, but I don't see one worthy of it in this class. I don't see anyone with great pass rushing or pocket pushing ability.

You wouldn't take Ashawn Robinson or Andrew Billings in a trade back scenario that acquires more picks like the OP suggested?

We can get a top notch QB in the 1st and a top notch 1-tech in the 2nd.

This is my number 1 preference for us this year in terms of draft strategy.
Doubt we do this but I'm hoping we do

Definitely not two that high. We have pressing needs at CB, backup QB, LB, and even RT. One could even argue that we need a RB and WR.

That was my only point. I am fine with taking a DT high if he's the best player on the board and a real stud. But I think the scenario the original poster put up where you trade back from 4 and then use your top 2 picks to take DTs is pretty crazy.

Your preference would be to use our first two picks in this draft on DTs?

I justwant them to build a defense so we can maybe win a superbowl. at least compete for one. all of he teams going deep in playoffs have really good defenses.

Now, throw all your money at all of your suggested positions, and what is really changed on the overall team?

A high level CB, DE, and QB can be acquired via free agency.

Also, a 3rd round pick should be a solid add for RB.

With Free and the 3rd rounder picked last draft, there is a solid picture already.

It really depends on where and what we got. I love Billings but I don't think I would take him until the mid teens. Trading back to the mid-teens should net us a wealth of picks and Billings would be amazing in the middle of this defense and next to Crawford.

A good DT or two can be had in free agency too.

Ones that also project into the future as top shelf?

Fix or band aide shuffling cash flows instead of quality to bear?

Don't care about the second DT too much but Nkemdiche would be nice value there. I mainly want one of the top 1 techs in a trade back. Go CB or QB or whatever after that.

So what you are saying is that you can get a top shelf CB or QB or DE in free agency but you can't get a top shelf DT in free agency?

What about WR? Can you get a top shelf WR in free agency or do you have to draft that?

And where are these high levels QBs that are available in free agency?

Would rather use our 2nd or 3rd on a DT. Tons of depth at DT this draft. Especially bull rushing, run stuffing, block eating tackles. The DT I want the most is Kenny Clark. I have a good feeling he will be at our pick in the 2nd.
