My Thoughts on Parcells staying/going

Guys:

Some thoughts:

1)JJ is not going to just sit there unless he has a plan B in place.

2) The current status may be the result of a contract issue. Example: what happens next year? What does JJ have to pay next year if he decides to fire Parcells? Does he have to fork out $5.5M for the final year of Parcells contract? Another reason for delay may be Parcells trying to finalize his staff before he committs to another year.

3) Is JJ's plan B guy still available? I think so, because none of the recent hires are big name guys. They are all unknowns and all carry some risk. I think JJ wants a guy with head coach experience at the major college or NFL level.

4) Are Cowboy assistants leaving a big problem? I don't think so because the only key guy leaving is Zimmer and I think JJ&BP wanted to ease him out. Also, I don't think Parcells was sold on the special teams coach. Maybe they got crossways during the problem with the field goal kicker.

OK, what is the best guess on Parcells staying/going? I think he stays as JJ gives Parcells what he wants for the next year. I also think this is Parcells last year at Dallas unless he wins the Super Bowl and wants to stay another year.

Thoughts?

This is a reach. The fact that we're already debating Parcells' intentions means that they're probably not working logistics. When/if BP leaves at the conclusion of his contract (not this year, btw), Jerry doesn't have to worry about any of that. It's all tied in a neat little bow and he didn't have to fire the second HOF coach of his career.

Another reach. There's nothing concrete to even suggest he has a 'Plan B guy.' He might, but it's all conjecture from us at this point.

Assistants leaving, in general, isn't a big problem - Zimmer leaving is. Jerry now needs to find somebody okay with a one-year deal who doesn't have aspirations of the Cowboys' head job. That means he has to underbid on talent. Either that or we see some no-namer come in (like Dan Hennig) who will be a puppet, which isn't good for anyone.

My best guess is that Parcells stays. What do we have to suggest he's leaving? Why extend it for one year and not live that out? It's one more year, not to mention a messy ending could sully his sinking reputation. As long as Jerry keeps him (which he absolutely will), Parcells should be back.

One thing I've learned in my short time dealing with internet message boards is that it's best to just ride out the waves. There are so many hot, hot button issues that get beaten to death on these boards that you'd drive yourself nuts trying to stop it all.

So grab your surfboard, buddy.
