mediocre QB? I agree Romo was not perfect I don't see any QB in the NFL who are perfect. I had doubts about Romo ability but he showed himself as more than just a mediocre QB last night.

I meant "mediocre" in a good sense.

"Mediocre" could have and probably should have been replaced by "average" or "competent" or perhaps even "non-sucktacular".

He played a nice game. He avoided the rush in the pocket well, made a few plays with his feet and let the skill positions make plays but I'm not sure that his family should be checking out hotel reservations in Canton in 2021 quite yet.

Crayton's still almost worthless returning punts.

One reason Crayton is back there returning punts (especially near the goal line) is the fact that he has the best hands on the team. It's really hard to return anything when you are returning short punts. Way to much hang-time with very little distance for the punting team to cover the punt. This IS the reason for the "Fair Catch".

I'm not trying to put him in the Hall but I saw a lot of vet QB's yesterday that were not as nearly as good as Romo showed last night. No doubt consistency will be the real tell all about Romo but given the situation he was in coming into the game at 3-3 on the road against a playoff contender and starting off 14-0 Romo showed things you do not expect out of QB's with little game experience. So I would say he past his 1st big test with flying colors.

One thing to keep in mind was the Carolina secondary was banged up. That defitely helped. Having said that, Romo showed poise, accuracy and generally good decisions (except for one horrible decision on the interception). I definitely like his quick reads, and quick release.

Romo made some things happen but was far from perfect. He missed a few big plays and the interception was horrible but at least people now understand what even a mediocre QB can do with the weapons Dallas has and how bad Drew Bledsoe really is.

It's a shame Thompson was injured, but Dallas doesn't score that last TD with him in the game instead of Barber.

Newman has to break a punt to get any credit at all nationally as a CB. He's the best in the league by a large margin but doesn't have that one moment that generates buzz.

Carpenter looked pretty good when he finally got in the game.

Another game, another horrendous effort on the part of the officiating crew.

I still can't get over how bad Bledsoe is.

Reeves needs to fall on that KO fumble instead of trying to pick it up.

Fasano's looking more and more like a nice player, especially when the QB will actually throw him the ball once in a while.

Crayton's still almost worthless returning punts.

Wow, Bledsoe's really make a line look worse than it really is. I wonder where we've heard that before.

Expect to see a lot of reverses and such to Glenn to keep him a part of the game.

Really nice observations, particularly the final one. I think you're right on about the reverse plays with Glenn.

Eddie: I do recall Hogeboom's first start - MNF in Anaheim. He and Doug Donley played pitch and catch all night. There was Tony Hill, Dorsett, and my favorite, Doug Cosbie. Gary was the NFC POTW. But the thing I remember most about that is the following week. We went to New York and the Giants just laid the wood to us. The offense was abysmal with 4 or 5 turnovers.

I just wanted to mention that because, IMO, a poor performance in D.C. is something this offense can not afford. We have seen some really nice games from a variety of QBs in the post Troy era. But they were usually followed up by some stinkers.

Washington is obviously not very good right now. Their defense is really struggling. We must exploit that. Is Tony Romo capable of directing that? We still don't know. I think this is part of the process.

How does he handle success?

Personally, I feel he should do well. But what do I know?

Good post as usual, Stanley...

A comment on the defense being the same as usual: One different thing is that Parcells seems to be getting more comfortable with matching up our corners on their receivers, which is great to see.

Oh, and I saw Marco Rivera block someone.

Some good points.

Ya know, not to harp on this Bledsoe thing...but after the game I was watching a post game show and the question was posed, "If the team played the way it did tonilght with Bledsoe, wouldn't he have won the game too"

Some of these guys simply don't get it. With Bledsoe in the game, it's an entirely different game. Fewer guys go out into pass patterns, the defense has a MUCH easier time, the offensive line has to be PERFECT...and on and on.

It's a shame we went to Romo so late..It's great that there's still more than half a season to go.

:bravo:
