My Thoughts

First I’m going to start by saying I was a huge Micah fan from the time his name was read. But it was quick to see he was all about himself. Reminded me too much of Marcellus Bennett. Dallas is so much better off without he headache that Micha brought. And now we hear from players who say he is a bad teammate. Leaves teammates out to dry because we will go off on his own and disregard the game plan for his own numbers. I’m glad he’s gone, and this coming from somebody who when he first got to Dallas could do no wrong. Biggest flag for me is he always disappeared when the game was on the line. I never saw him make a play that changed the game.

Love the moves this team has made. IDC is they’re not the names that people will jump at. They seem to be targeting players who play smart and play the system. All I hear is they could’ve had this guy or that guy. So what they got guys who make plays by being where they need to be not freelancing. A lot of fans scream for change but this is a prime example that most fans can’t handle it because they expected it to be fixed by the 2nd day of free agency. Some of you need a clue.

I’m not going to pretend to know much about the game of the guys they signed but everything I read is that they aren’t stars but they’re guys who do their job and produce. Give me 11 starters like that and run with it.

Dallas has positioned themselves to do whatever they want in the draft. They can stay put and take the BPA, they can move up for a guy like styles, Bain or downs. They can trade down because teams are going to be on them OL that will be prime to pick when Dallas picks. Jerry and the Cowboys have killed this offseason so far because it’s boring. They’re filling holes they keeping their guys they want and moving on from guys that don’t fit. We haven’t seen a offseason like this in decades. There’s always been drama. It seems like media is trying to create some drama with click bait stories on who they should be after or could be after. Jerry and Stephen have been quiet for the last part and the media hates it because they don’t have the clicks because they don’t got Dallas headlines. I love it.

I’m hoping Overshown is back this yr he IMO is the guy who can change everything for this defense. I’d love for this team to team him up with CJ Allen. But I’d love for the cowboys to trade down both RD1 picks and keep drafting guys who can turn ur defense around quick and cheap.

There seems to be a culture shift and it’s evident because it seems like the coaches have more say. Schottenheimer is getting his guys and his guys are getting the guys they want. Not having guys pushed onto them as his been the norm in Dallas.

Get on board or go find another team. Enjoy the ride and let yourself be entertained.
I think there is an actual outside chance at Bain dropping to us now. Theres been so much talk about his short arms maybe we get lucky.

Would love to get Bain and then Allen at 20. Those two plus the guys we signed would turn this defense around quickly imo.

Would love our free agency better if we signed some linebackers.
What's the plan?
Draft them?
When you draft for need, you tend to reach for players.

I just want to highlight this. Some of us saw this, and is why we weren't too upset about his departure. Dude was not a game changer. Even on a pretty good defense. We weren't the Raiders with Crosby, we had a pretty good D overall. To me Parsons feasted on weaker opponents. Did nothing to help us when we struggled. Not worth 40+ million a year.

I wish this forum would allow for Downvotes, as I would down vote you based off the last sentence.

"Get on board or go find another team. Enjoy the ride and let yourself be entertained."

Nah... I don't have to get on board of anything. This organization hasn't done **** since I was in my late teens. I've spent countless hours invested in them. I am not getting on board anything. They have to prove to me as a life long fan of multiple generations, that they take this seriously and are serious gentlemen.

Until they hire a competent GM, a competent QB, and a competent Head Coach, they will be doomed to fail and I will continue to belittle their pathetic movements every year. Including the "all ins" and the "busting the budgets" that you tool fans fall for every bleeping year.

Most of the locker room didn't like Micah and Diggs.
Depends on what you believe. This is the stuff that came out after he was traded. It seemed to be coming from the front office, though.

https://sports.yahoo.com/article/micah-parsons-not-well-liked-141637672.html

There have been rumors after he was traded that Micah Parsons was not well-liked by some of his former Cowboys teammates, which caused a lot of friction in the locker room.

While Parsons had a close friendship with Trevon Diggs, that wasn’t the case for every Cowboys player.

According to NFL Insider Albert Beer, Parsons was seen by some of his teammates as self-centered and egotistical.

"(Zack)Martin, (CeeDee) Lamb and (Dak) Prescott are/were very popular in the locker room," Breer wrote. "That's not the case with Parsons, who has rankled teammates in different ways, seen by some as egotistical and self-centered. His podcast has created issues, too, that go all the way up to quarterback Dak Prescott."

Another issue, according to Beer, was that Parsons was "playing out of structure in an effort to make big plays," which would sometimes hurt the team when they tried to stop the run. The Cowboys were 29th last year in stopping the run.

You get rid of a perennial pass rusher without a plan to replace him. You had Crossby right in front of you, but you value those meaningless draft picks. The Joneses are a train wreck.

Tyler smith will be the LT this yr. Steele will be fine. The team has said they asked him to do stuff that worked against him Last yr. This yr they’re going going back to what he does best.

Dak had another career yr and Williams ran wherever he wanted. It’s not like the OL is a problem. Too much nit picking by fans. Just let them build watch the show and root for the team.

You’ll enjoy games much more
my GOD you get this. Anyone picking at LT is just picking. Guyton is by no means good, but there are probably only 10 MASSIVE HUMANS on the planet better than him. Good luck getting them.

Good post, except the Cowboys are thin at linebacker. They will have plenty of options in the draft though. So I’m not really worried about linebacker.

They will need to addd linebackers in the draft though, or it will be a long season.

OP makes some salient points, but I think the jury is still out on the improved culture; don’t know that we will know anything about culture until the team takes the field for the regular season. This team needs smart, disciplined players who play not only within themselves but also within the system; Dallas was again amongst NFL leaders in penalties and have been at or near the top for several years now. So let’s see how coaching and culture impacts those numbers.

I think that's primarily fans coping. If Parsons tried to do too much, it's because he didn't have much help. If he wore down at the end of the season, it's because he was asked to do too much.
That's a myopic point of view. Whilst he's an outstanding player, it appeared that he played for the sacks and getting into the backfield (now possibly for personal glory or money on his next contract), but it would bring into question whether he would play a Parker Scheme where he'd be asked to cover and schemed away from pressurising (for the betterment of the team effort).

sadly the moment you said Steele will be fine you lost your cred
We'll just have to put up with Steele as the Achilles Heel, at least we'll know where the weakness is (and scheme accordingly).... The best way of improving this Offense will be through our Defense.

The cowboys have positioned themselves to take whoever they want?

How did you arrive at that conclusion?

They absolutely have to take a LB. They don’t have a choice.
But its quite conceivable that they've identified the draft as being the best market for a LB (or 2). The fan base appear increasingly obsessed with names, rather than Scheme Fits. What's apparent is that we're not signing a Murray, Sanborn......players who are never fitting the scheme.
.....indeed the plan may be 2 x LB because as @LatinMind mentions we can package up or down in the Draft and sign a Bobby Wagner (as Jesse Holley's championing) to mentor them (and used in a limited 1st/2nd Down capacity)?

My thoughts are that for several years the Cowboys were losing key free players and everyone said "hey, we will be fine without them" and they were wrong. Dallas was just getting worse one transaction at a time.

The team seems to have hit rock bottom. No one leaving is actually any good. No DLaw or JLew. That's actually a good sign. We have only to look up from here. The key is the draft. Can't be anymore guys who are injured or workout wonders who never did squat in college. Legit players only.

Would love our free agency better if we signed some linebackers.
What's the plan?
Draft them?
When you draft for need, you tend to reach for players.
That's a basic comment, which doesnt take into account: the strength of the LB class nor the 12th, 20th and 92nd picks......which as the OP does state could mean any of the LB's are available to us.

So you just want a LB, well Murray and Sanborn are both available?

I’m willing to concede that things have somewhat changed for the better but that’s it. Thirty years of drought rightfully allows anyone to take anything this organization says or does with a grain of salt.

I feel like the fans have developed a mentality of losing as a result of 30 years of losing. It's like we don't really want success, we want the appearance of trying to succeed.

For whatever reason, Cowboys fans love to hate the best players on the team, and for little things that have nothing to do with what goes on on the field. My goodness, if these fans had their way in the 1990s, the Cowboys wouldn't have been able to win 3 Super Bowls because Michael Irvin was an off the field headache, Leon Lett made dumb mistakes. Erik Williams couldn't stay home at night, and a few of them bought a house together and turned it into a party den.

I was a Cowboys fan then, and a Cowboys fan now, and I don't care that Micah had a podcast, or ate nachos on the sideline of a preseason game. If they had a winning team no one else would care either. The goal here is to win a Super Bowl, not train a bunch of Boy Scouts. I'll take bad boys and a Lombardi Trophy over the garbage stew Jerry has fed us the last 30 years any day.

Micah was a great player. Not a good player, a great player. He will probably be in the HoF. But Jerry thought he could win with just that one player on defense. Sure. Blame Micah for the lack of success. Accept the BS that it was Micah or a DT and that we could not have both. But we could have had Micah and Quinnen Williams.

We can talk all day about the offseason moves this year. But at the end of the day it comes down to winning football games. None of these off-season moves so far have moved the needle for Dallas. And that's all that matters to me. We have high hopes for the new DC, but he is not getting it done if we do not get better players. It's as simple as that. And so far, this off-season is just another season of picking up the scraps.
