Ugh, San Francisco had the 26th scoring offense in the league last year (just up 3 spots from the previous year). 29th in passing. This was after spending millions on free agent upgrades and a top 10 draft pick on Vernon Davis. Alex Smith's QB rating last year was still a below average 74 (it had nowhere to go but up from the year before). And Norv didn't really work wonders for Heath Shuler's career.

I would say Norv's record with young QB's is spotty with high highs and low lows.

Shuler was a bust from the beginning. As for Sf offense, Gore was amazing and Alex Smith's development is moving along well with Norv's guidence.

We have bigger issues on defense. Norv knows nothing about where our glaring problems are.

he might hire somebody who would though

Jerry Jones, we are talking about the same guy right? Look for a no name or a puppet. Jones already has the new stadium.

You're right...

These aren't popular nor are they good choices either...

I'm tired of the retreads...

Let's get someone new in there...

No to Dan Reeves.

I might not like the idea of Norv, but I would not throw a hissy fit.

Ugg...to be honest nobody available right now really gets me too excited.

:hammer:

Cowher is the only "sexy" name, but we all know he ain't coaching next season.

#1 would be Norv Turner. He is great grooming young Qbs and we have one in Tony Romo who has tons of potential. Plus he has HC experience. He was a HC under Danny Snyder who is a disaster to work for and under the AL Davis regime which as we can see now is a black hole for head coaches. I would like to see him get another shot. Plus he could double as our OC and would be one less position we would be in a hurry to fill.

#2 would be Dan Reeves. I heard Drew Pearson say something a few weeks ago about this team losing touch whith it's past. BP had brought guys like Carl Banks and others in to talk about being champions. This organizations has more champions than the old Giants, why not dip into that past. Plus Reeves is another guy who can coach QBs. He did a good job with Elway in Denver. My only concern would be his age and heart health.

Either way, I really want a good DC to come in. One who isn't afraid to make adjustments and adapt to the flow of the game. We didn't have that the last few years. After watching the Colts yesterday, they adapted, made adjustments and in the end, wound up going to the Super Bowl because they were flexible.

Unlike us, who played that "We'll stick with the game plan no matter what the score is" crap.

I wonder if Dick Juron will be available?

And Reeves cries too much and has a heart condition.

Gore was amazing and Alex Smith moved along well to 26th in the NFL in scoring points.

Well, he is developing Alex Smith right now and he made a mediocre SF offense dangerous with designing game plans that accentuated the teams strengths with Frank Gore and Vernon Davis and so-so O-line. And as I said, he had crap to work with in Wash, and Oakland. At least here he has Romo who has some talnet.

You can't make chicken salad out of chicken crap.

I don't think anyone has ever doubted the guys ability to be a good offensive coordinator. I think we would all love to have him here if he were available. But Head Coach? Come on, I hope that doesn't happen. I really don't care what the situation in Washington was like, and it's hard to faul the guy for what took place in Oakland, but he's failed as a HC in this league.

You want to go from one Dinosaur to another with Reeves? The guy seems so on and off with the teams, I'm not sure I'd want him either. But at least he has proven success as a Head Coach. Something you cannot say about Norv Turner.

In order to evaluate ones performance you need to look at what the INDIVIDUAL did. AS I said, HE is moving along well. He took advantage of Gore and Vernon Davis. ISn't that what you want in a coach? Or would you prefer what we had the last four years of finding guys who are talanted then ruining them? (JJ, Roy, etc.)

I reckon out of all the possibles Rex Ryan is my first choice. I really like Rivera and Grimm too. Norv doesn't do much for me- as much as I love the Jimmy years.

Dan Reeves is a likeable guy. Talented and creative. The Falcons screwed up when the fired him, IMO. Reeves was a very decent head coach.

But he's now in his 60's. It would be cool to have a Landry-era guy around, but I think the Cowboys would do better to go for a younger guy.

You are right.

Very unpopular.

I don't know if either would be good choices, while sentimentality might swing a vote for either.

I just do not care for Turner as a head coach. Some say it's not his fault what happened in Washington and Oakland and blame meddlesome owners. What exactly would he have here with Jones?

Coach Reeves is simply a health risk. I know he's ready to come back, but we just lost one because of a lack of energy, we do not need to do it again.

Norv......maybe but doesn't get me excited.

Reeves.....He would have been my choice to succeed Landry. Now no way...us old folks just don't have the energy for a 16 game season.

It's time for someone young, full of vigor, and ready to kick some butt.

Yeah...

Like Rivera...

Or I'd even take a look at Singletary...

Or Stoops...

No more of these friggin retreads that people think can once again grasp the Golden Ring...

Turner wasn't even good as a HC and now you want to give him a shot at #3?...

Yes, I do. I think it would work well. We just need to find a DC and re-hire Coach Joe for SP.

In 1994, following his success with the Cowboys, Turner was hired as the head coach of the Washington Commanders. In seven seasons with the Commanders, he went 49-59-1. They made the playoffs only once, in 1999, where they lost to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in the second round. Following his tenure with the Commanders, Turner went on to serve as offensive coordinator for the San Diego Chargers in 2001 and Miami Dolphins in 2002 and 2003.

When the Oakland Raiders fired head coach Bill Callahan following the 2003 season, owner Al Davis hired Turner to replace him. Turner went 5-11 in 2004, followed by a 4-12 record in 2005, and was fired on January 3, 2006. During Turner's two years with the Raiders, he managed only one win against his division, the AFC West. In addition, Turner was unable to jumpstart an offense that, in 2005, included Pro Bowl wide receiver Randy Moss.

Perfect...

Is there any way we can get jack del rio because he's young and has ties to the cowboys? I think he would be a perfect coach for this team and is also very energetic. I would give a 2nd round draft pick to have him as our coach.
