Myles Sanders or Javonte Williams

He literally changed the whole league’s focus on running backs. The Cowboys, who do not delve into free agency much, have already signed two FA RBs and are likely considering drafting one in the first three rounds. Barkley even got Jerry’s attention.
Not sure I'd go that far. They've signed two guys who cost them a combined $4M. Not much different than signing Zeke/Cook/Freeman last offseason.

For sure Javonte Williams. Sanders only has $100k guaranteed on his deal which makes me think he is far from a lock to even make the roster out of camp. Williams has more upside, bigger contract, he will be given every opportunity to succeed.

He hasn't regained the burst that made him special after his horrific knee injury in 2022. We're actually getting him at the right time, as that's about how long it takes to recover, 2-3 years.
yeah the 1st year he was great then the knee injury and he was coming back last year. i think your right we are getting him at the right time. he’s going to be good this year barring an injury

Ask again after the draft when we will know a lot more about the Cowboys RB corp.

You are about 2 weeks too early with this thread.

If the Cowboys only draft 1 RB, they likely keep both.
And if they draft 2, they may not keep either. Will definitely be interesting

Who do you think the Cowboys keep, who do you like more, and why???

I'd choose Sanders, I think he adds more some juice to the offense
I don't think Sanders has much juice left. His last two years have looked like those of a cooked back.

Williams doesn't have as much wear and tear on him despite being slowed by injury the past couple of years. Unless his body just won't recover, he has a better chance of getting back to his pre-injury form. Sanders, meanwhile, may be where Zeke and Cook were last year when we signed them, at the end of their best-by date.

This is a franchise that, over the years, has boasted Don Perkins, Calvin Hill, Duane Thomas, Tony Dorsett, Herschel Walker, Emmitt Smith, Marion Barber, DeMarco Murray, and (prime) Ezekiel Elliott in the backfield.

Now we are having Javonte Williams or Miles Sanders discussions.

The more I think about it, the happier I would be if this team takes a running back in the first round. I don't care if they move down a bit and get Treyveon Henderson or Omarion Hampton. They need a true number one back to make this offense go.

This is the same front office that rolled out Zeke and Dowdle and thought they were legitimate Super Bowl contenders. I expect them both to be here and I expect them both to suck.

One of these two guys may well be the backup,. but from what i've seen from Williams in his last years in Denver post ACL, i'm concerned about his
in-out of hole burst.
It'd be much like taking on another Zeke Elliott.

- And some may auto-point to Broncos' OL woes, but them Broncos have not been particularly stellar at OL for quite some time -
and the pre-ACL Williams was showing a burst into and out of holes, even an average OL unit .

- Some guys manage to recover to previous form per ACL injury ....while some do not.
Methinks Williams is one of those who have//will not return to form.
Maybe he proves me wrong here with the Cowboys.. we'll see.

No. Barkley is great. Few running backs in the NFL could have done what he did last season. It’s one thing to have a good offensive line. Producing what Barkley did takes a great running back.

No, Barkley is just good. He literally didn't look all that great until he got behind the best OL in the NFL. Don't fall for it.

They may keep both as they may only draft 1 RB if in the 1st 3 rounds. Then a flyer on one late, but may be more PS type guy. If no better player is there.

Keep in mind, They may not keep Deuce. Leupke, maybe, depends how the new staff values a FB. Can Williams take his place.

If they draft a RB like Henderson, who is an all around RB such Zeke was. Run, catch, block. That can make Leupke more expendable. I like Leupke, but how valuable is he to take a roster spot. Will they have package for Deuce, and can they execute those plays.
Henderson is all around, and has homerun speed, though he is not near as big and physical as Zeke was,.. Leupke may depend upon the new coach staff expectations.

Could they use him such as a Kyle Juszczyk/ Patrick Richard role ? ... only we don't really use him in a lead block I-formation role as Niners/ Baltimore FB role, he's not near as physical lead blocker (just average, imo) ...and i still wonder if Leupke warrants enuff touches and significant role to retain a roster spot for him.

Ditto here

- The Eagles got a great RB in Barkley ..and combined him with probably the best OL in NFL.

- Barkley has only been limited b past injuries and very suspect coaching and support cast in NYG.

- I thought Henry should have got Jerry's attention. He clearly said he wanted to be in Dallas, but Jerry screwed that up with the " we couldn't afford him " lie.
Next thing we know and see is Henry blowing it up with homerun speed hitters in Baltimore.

Not too keen on either honestly. Both averaged about 3.7 per carry last year. Meh.

In other words we better draft a RB who’s better than those two because neither Williams or Sanders is much of a threat. Putting it even more bluntly, there’s a reason those guys were available at the price we paid.

LOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOL can you say this again!!!!!!!! lol, especially for zeke

I don't know what you think you see. Williams looks like the same back last year to his year as a rookie. He just had a really bad OL in Denver. He was never a special/elite RB. But he's difficult to get down and he has a better burst than Dowdle. He should be #2 to a RB with speed and explosiveness.

No way to tell yet. I will say this, Sanders was a bright spot on a terrible team last year. Williams could have alot left in the tank .

Williams is still a good RB. He will make the team. Sanders may make the team if he beats out Deuce Vaughn and and/or Malik Davis, whom I think will be given a chance to win a job this year.

Bottom line, Lupke makes it, Williams makes it, and the rest will be a battle, but don’t be surprised if we draft a RB and bring in an UDFA back. That could push Davis and Vaughn both out.
