MySa Blog: McNabb: 'We stopped ourselves'

I agree with him. Not that they would have won, but they had two definite missed opportunities there.

Both teams had missed opportunities, a factor losing quarterbacks rarely take into account. Jones had a big run called back, and also a screen pass called back. Romo had a deflected pass get intercepted.

McNabb fumbled away a snap from center, and of course, the missed hookups to Maclin and Jackson he is referencing. But Maclin and Jackson only had three receptions each. Combined, they had less a contribution than EITHER Austin or Crayton.

The Cowboys rushed for ~180 yards. The Eagles had no answer for that. Westbrook is going to have to make a dramatic improvement to change that. Spears and Olshansky aren't going to let that happen.

I certainly think the Eagles will score this time around. They had two missed opportunities for sure: The missed field goal, and McNabb's fumble.

But, the Eagles are going to be surprised by John Phillips and Roy Williams.

The Cowboys have a lot more talent.

If McNabb ir right then he can claim that the Eagles left about 14 points on the filed.

If McNabb is fair, thrn he will also 'take away' Dallas' missed opprtunities and miscues which, if I count correctly, left about 17 points on the filed.

So if the final score was 24-0 but we wish to let McNabb be right and fair, then let's just recalculate the final score to be 41-14 in Dallas' favor.

There McNabb, do you now feel better about Dallas blowing you out either way?

Nahhh...not me...I'd much rather revel in the REALITY that Dallas SHUT YOU DOWN AND OUT!

SHUTOUT = SHUTUP MnNABB :D

Well McNabb in that case the only reason Dallas only beat you 24-0 instead of 41-0 is because they stopped themselves on missed plays.

Romo over throw to Ogletree is a missed 7 points that the Cowboys stopped themselves on.

FG miss is another 3 points that we cost ourselves.

TD pass toward Crayton that was instead tipped and picked is another 7 point play that Dallas stopped themselves on.

So, dang, we're just so darn lucky that we stopped ourselves from stopping you into the ground 41-0.

McNabb is partly right. The Eagles did stop themselves at times and McNabb did miss on some opportunities. He does that in every game because he is not an accurate passer.

The league average this year for completion percentage was 60.90%. McNabb had a 60.27% completion percentage for the year. His career completion percentage is 59.02% and he only completed 55.56% for the game. He will always miss some guys during a game. That is why you force him to move the length of the field and defend on giving up the big plays. Eventually McNabb will miss open guys.

When McNabb wasn't missing guys on his own the Dallas defense applied sufficient pressure to create some errant throws and limited the Eagles big play opportunities. The defense did stop the Eagles as well as the Eagles stopping themselves.

All of these numbers are pathetic for a QB playing in the West Coast Offense.

Maybe it's one of those "black on black crimes" that momma McPuke told him?

I think McNabbs comments are very fair. He gives the Dallas defense their due. At the same time he believes he can beat them if given the chance. I'd expect Romo to think the same way if the tables were turned.

Hardly.
The Cowboys are a great defense. They have a lot of players who have made a lot of plays all throughout their careers and guys who are on the rise. But obviously (it's) more that we stopped ourselves.

If he had finished with "we needed to do better" no problem.

Always watch for the "but". The "but" here negates pretty much everything else he just said. He even said it was more us than them. That's him refusing to give the defense their due for not only winning, but shutting them completely out.

Every game anyone plays can have a collection of coulda shoulda moments. And if Romo comes out with this drivel if we lose Saturday, it would be horrible.

Given them credit, be a sport. But don't try to negate what they did while at the same time imply that it could have been different "if". It is just like how Wade Phillips came across after the Giants beat us. "The best team lost". No. The best team won.

OK McNabb. It had nothing to do with the pressure you were under or how the D played that caused your offense to not play well. It is just so obvious

...true it would have been better for the Cowboys to walk off the field and let McNabb attempt to lead a drive to the endzone without defenders around.

Given that the Eagles stopped themselves there's no need for the Cowboys to play.

His comments sure different from Reid's after the game. He said the Eagles were simply outplayed by the Cowboys in all 3 areas of the game--offensive, defensive & special teams. If McNabb believes what he's saying, we will win big time. And no, when we lose Romo doesn't say stupid things like McNabb frequently does.

McNabb's comments all week have been a direct contradiction to what the head coach has been saying. And this is to the media. Imagine how things are in that Eagle locker room? It makes me smile just thinking about it. If Romo were doing it, there would be three inch headlines about how Phillips has lost the team or that Romo is a loose cannon.

And no, when we lose Romo doesn't say stupid things like McNabb frequently does.
Romo has said a few strange things (the led a good life comment), but I have never ever heard him blame the youth on his team for a lack of execution or point fingers. Ever. In most cases, his comments are often robotic mumbo jumbo much like coach-speak.

That is a weak example of leadership. The problem with McNabb, he in essence can tell the joke, but flubs the punchline. He can sound like he is saying the right things if you are not paying attention, but if you are, it is obvious what he is doing. He is in full CMA mode.

The Eagles and Rodney Harrison are certainly delivering some quality bulletin board material.

I feel strangely confident about this game and I'm usually the most pessimistic fan when it comes to the Cowboys.

In all honesty, those two missed opportunities were opportunities because the defense completely failed at their end of the bargain. That **** can't happen in game three. We can't count on the other team "missing opportunities" that we gift wrap for them. Especially in the playoffs.

Jackson did the single one thing that we can't let him do: Get behind the entire defense.

The play to Maclin was a HUGE blunder in pass coverage. There wasn't a guy within 15 yards of him when the pass bounced off his shoulder.

That ABSOLUTELY CANNOT HAPPEN AGAIN.

Plays like that turn momentum and, sometimes ultimately, the game. As sharp as the Cowboys were this past weekend, they must be doubly diligent this week. There's no tomorrow if they fail to do so.

I know that we've beaten Philly twice this season and in both games we looked like the better team. But, I also know that Andy Reid knows very well how to beat the Cowboys. The fact that he failed to do so in his last two attempts means absolutely nothing once kick-off rolls around on Saturday.

Eh, hard to keep a guy like Desean Jackson completely contained for an entire game. But other than the two opportunities you mentioned, along with a couple of timely passes to Celek, we basically shut them down. When it comes to big bombs like that, you're probably successful maybe 1/3 of the time. Don't forget - we missed one to Ogletree too, it happens pretty frequently.

We need to PUNISH McNabb. Once we steal his courage and his confidence, the game is ours.

What else would any one expect him to say? This gets said by a great number of QBs week in and week out. Games we have lost Romo, Phillips, Jones any number of players say "we missed opportunities"
What's the big deal here?

Don't get me wrong. I'm confident in the Boys. I think we win, with very little doubt. I just know big plays like that shift the momentum of a game. Guys like Jackson have the ability to break things wide open. He's done it to virtually every single team the Eagles have played this year. We've shut him down twice. The odds of doing it three times are against us with out the most diligent sense of preparation and discipline. That's my only single concern.

O, lord, gimme a break.

Can you, McFlabb, for once give your opponents their due?

The 'Boys could have stopped themselves too. The boys were not prefect, yet they were consistently tough and focused (thanks Brooking) and they plainly stopped the Eagles.

Yes, the Eagles had a number of mistakes. But that is part of the game.
But leave it to McFlabb to make excuses.

Dear McFlabb: I guarantee you that you will stop yourselves again next Saturday 31-13.

It's called football. The team that makes the fewest mistakes and the most plays wins -- just like it happened on Sunday.

Lord, help me get through this weekend just to see McFlabb again say how they stopped themselves. It is one of the sweet pleasures of life.

LOL

Yeah, he was really being hard on himself with that stupid grin he kept on his face after those passes..

or the throwing of the hands into the air, the looks of disgust.

Keep talking, McChunk.

Hey McNabb, what happened to "we let the Cowboys win the first game and we win the 2nd game"

Tip: You cannot win if you score 0 points
