That is actually my prediction for the 3rd year in a row now. Should have been right in '07 (thanks again Crayton, Fasano, Reeves and Hochuli). Last year was undone by injuries to both teams. This year the Pats look to be a top team with Brady back and I think Dallas is as good as any team in the NFC.

I'd take it. Winning a playoff game and losing Wade would be nice. It would be like having our cupcakes and eating them too.

I need a cold shower just reading that.

Sold!

I'm on board all the way up to the losing to NE part.

And just what credible evidence do you have to support the notion that we are going to the Superbowl?

:laugh2:

He didn't say we're going to the Superbowl. He just noticed that you're head's up your hole in the ground.

If Philly makes it, then that's two wild cards out of the East. It's possible.
Unless they've changed the system (there was a lot of talk about it after AZ got a home game last year), 2 wild cards can't play each other in the wild card round. The 2 division winners who don't get byes play the wild cards at home. So Dallas couldn't play Philly, unless there's a change I'm unaware of.

Nah, I just passed on the kool-aid.

What additions did we make this offseason that will get us beyond the 9-7 of last year?

Jerald Sensabaugh? Granted I think he is an upgrade but what other additions would point us toward playoff paydirt?

I guess most have bought into the addition by subtraction theory. While I will agree there is less drama this year, T.O. being gone is not gonna suddenly transform Austin or Hurd into a pro-bowl player. Pac-mans absence does nothing to keep Newman healthy for sixteen games.

Right now our hopes for playoff gold is built on the hopes that injury does not affect our lines this year. Oh and Felix Jones.

I see your guys point, and I hope you are right, but I am reluctant to get on the bandwaggon until we have a viable spare tire.

If you buy the idea that the idea that we didn't win more games last year had to do with the fact that we didn't have enough good players, then I can see where you're coming from. If anything, this team did downgrade it's talent in the offseason.

But the reality is that this team's problems weren't with the talent that was assembled. We lost several games to less talented teams because we turned the ball over too often. And because we didn't take it away enough. Because we put ourselves into low-percentage situations on offense way too often getting avoidable penalties. Because we put our defense at a disadvantage too often through poor ST coverage. Because we got key players hurt when we made mental errors.

We lost last season primarily for reasons that can be addressed with good coaching. I believe Wade's emphasis on creating turnovers will pay off on that side of the ball. And I believe we've almost certainly upgraded our ST in every phase of that game.

What I'm waiting to see is if the fumbling and penalty problems on offense have been adequately addressed. I'm hopeful the moving to the 2TE set helps both with protection and with making reads in the secondary. I'm hoping that having Kosier back and the emphasis on the run boosts OL play enough that we're out of the low-percentage down and distance neighborhood we lived in last year and that that improves both penalties and some of the turnovers that result from making low-percentage choices in the passing game.

I hate that part of it, but Shanahan in the prediction is more what caught my attention.

Flacco pulls a Rothburger in his second year, but the Boys turn into madmen after 14 years of waiting and beat the Ravens (1992 style) in the SB.

The rest of the league does a combined "facepalm" in total disbelief, as Jerry and Wade hoist up the Lombardi trophy.

T.O. calls up Romo (MVP) in the locker room to congratulate saying, "you were my QB man...you were my QB......sniff..sniff."

Yeah I guess I forgot that they didn't change the system. Musta dozed through all those rules changes.

Impossible. How could we play the Giants in Dallas (in the first round of the playoffs) if we don't win the NFC East?

Well if they're saying Philly won the division wouldn't that make it possible?

That is what I was thinking as well.

7-9 and third place in the NFC East.

Just accept it guys, it don't hurt as bad if you just accept it.

I appreciate your hurt, and all, but God I hope we don't have a single player who thinks like you do. I'm glad you're not on the team or helping run it.

I can rationally see us in the NFC Championship game. Past that, my ability to reason further ends, but my fanship hopes for more.

My thinking is this: we keep hitting a wall. At some point, we are going to get over that wall. Once we do, I think we are going to soar.

So I think we can get to the NFC Championship game. And in doing so, I think we get over that wall. On the other side of that wall, I like our chances against anyone.

Two more predictions

Here's two media predictions we won't be able to run in the newspaper because, well, we just ran out of time:

Greg Simmons of KSAT-12 says the Cowboys will go 9-7 and miss the playoffs. "I see the Giants getting better as well as the Commanders. That's why I believe it will be tougher for the Cowboys in the NFC East this season. By the way, I hope I am dead wrong."

Rob Phillips of DallasCowboys.com says the Cowboys will go 10-6 and clinch a wild-card berth. "They're in the best division with a brutal five-game stretch in December, but they're still a playoff-caliber team. Whether they play in January and beyond will depend on health and winning the games they should, particuarly early in the season."

My prediction will run in the Express-News shortly before the start of the season, but here's a hint as to what I'm leaning toward: It's more along the lines of Simmons' view than Phillips'.

Nice to see these guys going out on a limb relative to last year's performances. Somebody be sure to PM me whenever Tom Orsborn makes his season prediction. I hear it's going to be closer to 9-7 than it is to 10-6.

I dont think its that much of a stretch to see the Cowboys as a super bowl team. There certainly arnt many teams in the entire league, let alone the NFC with as much talent as we have. We have excellent skills guys, a solid OL, a defense that led the league in sacks last yr and stops the run for the most part. The team seems to have improved its special teams substancially.

The Cards were one of the worst teams to ever make it to the super bowl, they do have the luxury of playing in a horrible division, but seeing them make another run in the postseason is highly unlikely IMO.

The Vikes werent a super bowl team last yr and wont be one this yr with a 40yr old QB. QB isnt the only issue that team had, and the guy they got just isnt very good anymore.

The Falcons were also a fluke last yr, and this yr their defense is going to be a sieve. They wont make the playoffs IMO.

The Eagles werent world beaters either, they barely made the playoffs and barely won once they got there, then stunk against the worst team to ever win a conference title.

I really believe the Giants and Cowboys are the two most talented NFC teams, and I do believe the Cowboys have a better passing game than the Giants will be able to field. Even in the game we lost to them last yr, the defense got to Manning quite a bit and we really beat him up in the December game. That says alot because basically nobody touched Manning in the other games they played. I think our defense can load up to stop the run and not worry much about their passing game, whereas they cant really do that to us because we do have guys that can burn their secondary.

It comes down to what team will be healthiest going into the playoffs. If its us, I really think we'll be playing in that big game next February.

The only problem is that we've been one of the most talented teams in the league for a few years now.

Heck, after the embarrasing lost to Philadelphia, many wondered if the talent on this team was overrated.

I just want to see how we are doing in December.
