Scandrick a real steal

IRVING - With more heralded newcomers in the Cowboys secondary (think Pacman Jones, Mike Jenkins), rookie Orlando Scandrick has kind of flown under the radar during training camp and the preseason.

But that wasn't the case Friday night against the Texans. In his best preseason performance, the former Boise State standout played most of the game and finished tied with DeMarcus Ware for second on the team in tackles with five. He also broke up a Matt Schaub pass intended for Andre Davis.

Unlike some rookies, Scandrick isn't hesitant at all on the field. His confidence is a big reason why he was in on the game's second snap as part of the nickel package. It's also why defensive coordinator Dave Stewart called his number for blitzes a couple of times.

Bottom line: The Cowboys may have come up with a steal by taking Scandrick in the fifth round.

I posted this the other night but it was hijacked -

We have a SERIOUS cut issue at CB. We need to trade one of the younger corners or Henry. Pacman and Tnew start and we have so much young talent there we can't cut that.

Especially with lack of depth at WR

A real steal.

Scandrick as impressed me more than Jenkins and Pacman. I think when Wade and the coaches rave about his instincts and intelligence you can really see it on the field. Im really happy about our secondary situation this year and the adding of Zach Thomas. If this defense starts to get clicking just think of the possibilities?

I don't think we need to really trade a CB

While i am concerned with the depth at WR i think us trading a CB would be dumb. We should trade a 4th round draft pick or go to the FA to see if any adequate WR is available. Lets be serious we wont be able to land a probowl receiver right now.

Huh?

We usually keep 6 corners. We'll be keeping 6 this year:

1. Newman
2. Henry
3. Jones
4. Jenkins
5. Scandrick
6. Ogelsby

Unless you're a really big Alan Ball and Quincy Butler fan, this isn't a hard decision to make.

Got a tougher issue at cutting WR and TE.

Spot on. Ball has potential, but I have no problems putting him on the practice squad. If we lose him, we lose him.

until pacman knocks the rust off Henry is our biggest play maker in the secondary, and even into his game I think its a push between those two.

Why anyone would suggest we trade Henry is beyond me, oh wait it was nors.

scandrick played well but when the texans backup qb ran for a td it was a awful attempt by scandrick to make the tackle.

Jenkins has been flying under the radar too

in fact, I've read and heard more about Scandrick than Jenkins

I didn't see the game, but I'm assuming these tackles weren't of the downfield variety?

Jerry also hinted at keeping 4 tight ends last night. I just cant see oglesby making this team.

And I still dont see how stanbach is active on gameday, when austin returns that is....

this make no sense why would we trade Henry ?? What young talented CB on our roster would force such a move?

Who's Dave Stewart? Did Dave Campo marry Brian Stewart and take his last name?

I'm more concerned about our defensive cord. "Dave" Stewart.
Maybe we should let "Dave" Read coach special teams.

No wonder our D sucks. It's coached by an ex pitcher for the Oakland A's.

..so far to know this is the best draft we have had in the last 5 years..no doubt.

Everybody had shown flashes of play from the RBs to the DBs to the TE.

This is really going to help this team over the course of the season.

The position I worry about is the ST play which hopefully will stabilize once the cutdowns are done and WR depth.

Beyond that, once the depth injuries heal..we'll be getting better about the 4th game of the season on when we get so many guys back.

Assuming no more significant injuries.

We'll see.
