Scandrick a real steal
IRVING - With more heralded newcomers in the Cowboys secondary (think Pacman Jones, Mike Jenkins), rookie Orlando Scandrick has kind of flown under the radar during training camp and the preseason.
But that wasn't the case Friday night against the Texans. In his best preseason performance, the former Boise State standout played most of the game and finished tied with DeMarcus Ware for second on the team in tackles with five. He also broke up a Matt Schaub pass intended for Andre Davis.
Unlike some rookies, Scandrick isn't hesitant at all on the field. His confidence is a big reason why he was in on the game's second snap as part of the nickel package. It's also why defensive coordinator Dave Stewart called his number for blitzes a couple of times.
Bottom line: The Cowboys may have come up with a steal by taking Scandrick in the fifth round.
