Buehler goes 6 for 6

David Buehler had another strong day, going 6 for 6 on field goal attempts inside the Alamodome.

"I do think he's gifted," Wade Phillips said. "He obviously has a strong leg, but I think he has some smooth delivery of the ball. When he hits it, he doesn't hit a hook. Some of the sidewinders hit a hook type ball. His is more straight, and end-over-end and usually that's the best candidate for field goal kickers, and he hits the ball well that way."

Buehler led the league as a rookie last season with a franchise-best 29 touchbacks, and Phillips said the USC alum remains strong in that area.

"I actually think he's kicking the ball off better," Phillips said. "I know he did really well last year, but he's worked on kicking it to his left more; you probably noticed he kicked a lot of them to the right last year. But he's controlling the ball better on his kickoffs. He's working on what he does, and I think he's going to come along well."

Buehler, known for his athleticism also remains confident that he can outrun plenty of the defensive backs and wide receivers.

"He said he could outrun the new guy, but I won't let them run against each other," Phillips said, referring to newly signed former UTSA track star Teddy Williams.

Bennett to return Friday, Phillips says

Third-year tight end Martellus Bennett is finally ready to practice, Wade Phillips said Thursday.

Bennett will be on the field for Friday's 2:15 p.m. workout. It will be the first time he's in pads since minicamp.

The Texas A&M alum sprained an ankle working out on his own at Valley Ranch a few days before training camp started.

"He will probably be limited some, but he is moving around well so he will start practicing again tomorrow," Phillips said.

Wade has a good sense of humor.

6 for 6.. I don't understand how field goal practice works.

What else does a kicker practice? I'd imagine you could get more than 6 shots in during a day..

I'm not *****ing, I just honestly don't know what else is there for a kicker to do? WHy isn't he attempting like 50 shots a day?

You would wear out his leg. I'm sure he is on the side working on technique and things but they only keep track of his makes and misses when they actually line up as a game like situation. That would make him 14 of 15 for this camp with his only miss hitting the upright. I'd say he's well on his way to being able to handle the job.

Don't rush yourself Bennett. Phillips has it under control.

The coaches don't want all the players spending too much time on fgs.

Imagine what a great life the punter has. My dream for my son is to one day be a punter. No one wants this job. Everyone wants to play QB or some high recognition position. Forget that. Play the odds. Punt. Train from the time you are young to do nothing but punt. Then you can have a 20 year career where you almost never get hit and crippled. All you do is punt a ball about 5 times a game. Worse case you make just over the vet minimum. Your rich either way. Cake. :laugh2:

Haha. I've thought about this.

6 for 6. Now that's what I like to hear. I wonder what's his range.

Don't get any kind of excited. I was at camp today. 3 of the kicks were from the 7 yard line with only McBriar, LP and Buehler.

3 more were from the 10 yard line +/- with a rush. One of them would have easily been blocked, if not picked out of the air for a TD the other way.

I wasn't worried about the kicking situation headed into camp today, but to see what is being blown around in articles as evidence that our kicking game is looking alright is disconcerting.

I don't think we'll know much of anything until the preseason games start.

Making them in practice and making them in a game are two completely things. He is looking good but i want to see him in the clutch before i get out the anointing oil ;)

Calvin Watkins' report said that all of Beuhler's kicks were from 30 yards or in today as they have been throughout much of camp. Not really sure what the thought process behind that is. So Wade can say, "Heh heh, he made all 6 today"..well that's good for his confidence, BUT any NFL kicker should be making those. If we're really trying to see if he can cut the mustard, he needs to be kicking from beyond 30.

The reason we got rid of our probowl kicker was because the 30-40 yd "gimmees" werent "gimmees" any more.

Everybody knows Buehler has a bomber leg, what we need is the kicker to make all the chip shots. I dont care if he can make an occasional 55 yarder if he misses mutliple chip shots.

They are doing exactly what they should be doing with Buehler. I have 100% complete faith in Decamillis.

I get what you're saying, but he needs to attempt some kicks beyond 30 yards because, let's face it, that's a real game situation. It's still early so maybe they will gradually increase the distance of his attempts.

well he did do that the other day, and made from 46 and 48...said they were bombed

We should have cut him when we had the chance. Now that we know he is making kicks, no way he clears waivers.

He probably kicked 50 fgs yesterday, but 6-6 probably refers to team fgs where the unit lines up against a defense and the entire team is watching and the coaches are creating pressure by verbalizing game type situations.
