Myth of no open receivers

Easy for you say Dak could have done this or that sitting on your couch. I get that Romo is your idol. I like Romo too but trying to prop up Romo by putting down Dak is just stupid. Especially posting pics that doesn't tell the whole truth.

Romos not my idol. I don't have pet cats coaches cant afford pet cats. Do I think Romo a potential HOF QB ? Yes I do. Dak might be one day too.

In fact, it may just be too late for such a thing. I think Prescott has got at least two more games on the leash with Garrett...and to put Romo in at Philly, in possibly poor conditions against a salty defense is not an ideal place for a resurrection. I think Garrett has made his bed for better or worse. It's not fair to Romo to expect him to be at a playoff caliber level without more than one game. That seems to me like setting him up for failure...and if he does indeed fail, the consequences to him would be particularly severe.

The consequences of Garrett going into the playoffs with Dak are MUCH MORE SEVERE if Garrett goes into the playoffs with Dak with a healthy Romo on the bench he better prey he finishes his career in Dallas cause no other NFL GM will touch him.

I like Sturms stuff but don't always agree with him. What I do like is that even when I disagree with him he usually have good reasons for his opinions and I can respect that.

If I knew I could get 2014 Romo back I would take it. Unfortunately, I don't know if we'll ever see that again. Based on Dak's full body of work I'm ready for him to continue as starter. I saw nothing in the film to change my opinion on that. However, if this offense continues to struggle and he's the reason why (either on his play or the offense having to be dumbed down) then let's go to Romo.

Ditto. 100%.

Yeh sure he isn't. That's why your Zone handle is Romotil45. Take off your Romo colored glasses and you may just learn something.

Lol that's a good one. Don't read to much into it. It's a slap at Brady thinking he might play till 45. I can can learn from anyone.

Go watch the whole film. No QB could complete a pass to a WR that is not looking back unless that WR has eyes on his back of his head. Bease makes a cut and starts to look back a second after the ball is thrown.

You can see Dak looking at him waiting for Bease to make the cut until the pocket starts to collapse and he needs to dump it to Dunbar.

The pic you posted is a moment after the ball has already left Dak's hands.

*** are you talking about? You are absolutely clueless by saying this. Every decent NFL quarterback throws a ball before the receiver makes his break in EVERY game, they don't wait for them to look back!

That and the Zeke miss in the flat are pretty awful. That safety is making a beeline straight towards Beasley. If that ball is on time and accurate, he could very well be 5 yards away from Beasley by the time the ball arrives and having gave up his angle to make a play in the process. With no safety and the CB well in front of him, that could easily have ended up in a foot race.

And to the poster saying Dak didn't throw it to Beasley because he wasn't looking, please just stop. Beasley whips his head around right as the ball is thrown, it would have taken a second to get to him and Dak is supposed to know where he's going to be which would have given Beasley more than enough time to locate the ball. That throw is supposed to come out as or right before Beasley turns to look for the ball. QBs make dozens of throws every week before the WR is looking at him. That's called anticipation...

Aikman did this A LOT in Norv Turner's timing-based offense in the nineties.

Troy Aikman and Michael Irvin were outstanding with their timing routes; in fact, since 1991, they have the third-most total yards (8,844) among all quarterback-receiver combos and the fourth-most completions (580), better than any of the duos listed above.

Wes Chandler said he'll never forget the day quarterback Dan Fouts stepped onto the San Diego Chargers' practice field in 1982, and then-offensive coordinator Ernie Zampese handed him a blindfold.

What better way, said Zampese, to see how good the timing-based offense is working than to have Fouts throw passes blindfolded.

Chandler said Fouts threw about 10 passes. He completed them all, including a bomb.

Chandler, now the Cowboys receivers coach, said that's the standard Troy Aikman and Joey Galloway must strive to achieve.

They will get their last preseason opportunity to improve their timing Thursday night, when Dallas (0-4) plays St. Louis (1-2) at Texas Stadium.

"I could probably do that with Michael [Irvin]," Aikman said of completing passing blindfolded. "I should be able to do it with these guys by the end of the season."

Under offensive coordinator Jack Reilly, the Cowboys are returning to the timing-based offense that helped them win three Super Bowls in the '90s. Every offense includes some timing routes, but few are based around timing patterns that require the quarterback to deliver the ball before the receiver has completed his route.

It's an offense built on trust.

The quarterback must believe the receiver will be where he's supposed to be when he's supposed to be there, so the pass isn't intercepted or incomplete.

The guy who can't stay healthy enough and has managed to play in a whopping 3-4 games of the last 29? Sure thing.

Also the same guy who looked god awful his last regular season game he started.

Give me a break. Let's break out film of Romo's worst game and circle all his mistakes and misses. How about we start in the games he had 4 picks or more. The total amount Dak has this entire season.

How does no one get the point that he was still injured and was rushing back to try to save our season.

Not to mention he was playing on three days rest. I mean...how many times does it need to be explained?

The only way to be like the qb is let the film roll no stopping it, and look at 1 guy at a time and even still your seeing it from the sky view.
That's my problem with trying to draw any conclusions from these pictures. If Dak is consistently failing to pull the trigger or even see the open receiver, we'll all know it, because there will be a switch to Romo sooner than later.

Dont make stupid comments unless you saw the whole video. Had dak thrown to Beasle at the time he threw the ball to Dunbar the ball would have hit Bease on the back.

Maybe it's because we just had an election, but damn, I feel like there is more bias than honesty going on right now(in multiple threads on both sides).
(Not directed at you OP).
Dak had a bad game. Hopefully, with film review he can improve his reads/confidence.

lol, says the guy with Romo in his avatar name. Big shock.

Depends on down and distance.

This picture for example Butler really isn't open over the middle. Williams is still a bit early on the route. EE is open, but again...down and distance. Anticipation is still something that Dak needs work on, but I think we were too careful with him and if you're worried about blitzes and anticipation, then the play calling could be a little more creative to get guys more open.

He should have anticipated Butler clearing the first level of the zone and the depth of the FS.

He is not open to throw at that point because the FS can drive on the ball but if he anticipates because both defenders have their hips upfield and throws it as he is passing them it is an easy completion in the soft spot of the zone.
