Nice, but to be honest, I've only ever heard Johnny Cash do it.

I started to include Johnny Cash as well. Kris Kristofferson wrote the song, but Johnny Cash had the hit song. I prefer Kristofferson's version - or at least the Kristofferson version I'm most familiar with. Kristofferson's singing can sometimes be a struggle and some versions of some songs can be pretty bad. But in general with this genre of music I think the songwriters do a better version because, at least in my mind, they present it more in the spirit and mood that was intended when written. To me it's the difference between the writer presenting what he intended, and someone else putting their own interpretation on it, which can be different.

I'll have to check out Kris's rendition sometime...but I've loved that song for about 40 years, because of the mood Johnny sets.

I think it's a great song. Back in my younger days when I was more inclined to drink and stay out late, I remember Sunday mornings like the song describes.

I'd ride through all of Hell and half of Texas
Just to hear Willie Nelson sing a country song
Beer just ain't as cold in old Milwaukee
My body's here, but my soul's in San Antone.

Saw "San Antone" and went "woot!" Johnny Cash, completely ignoring the rest of the verse, whereas I have no clue :)

This thread is a challenge.

You're a man that knows his C&W.

Here's a hint for the rest.
When I die. I may not go to heaven.
I don't know if they let cowboys in.

Now that we have another C&W fan here, I'll throw out more lyrics from that genre. Try this one ....

Cowboys and outlaws, right guys and southpaws,
Good dogs and all kinds of cats.
Dirt roads and white lines and all kinds of stop signs,
But I stand right here where I'm at,
Cause I ....

Okay guys, here's a lob up, but only to make it accessible for some folks not as versed as some of you :)

"Sittin' in the mornin' sun
I'll be sittin' when the evenin' comes
Watchin' the ships roll in
Then I watch 'em roll away again

[...]

I left my home in Georgia
And I headed for the Frisco Bay
'Cause I've got nothin' to live for
Looks like nothin's gonna come my way, so"
