This NFL quarterback:

Has the highest passer rating this season for all quarterbacks that were not the starter on week #1.

Has the highest completion rate among all quarterbacks this season with 80 or more attempts, 78.6%.

Has completed 100% of his passes when it is 3rd down and 10 or more yards.

His team scored everytime he led them into the opponent 20 yard line, 77.8% TD's.

Former 1st round pick.

Now please try to answer this question:

How much confidence do you have that the Cowboys have the ability to make the right choice for a future quarterback even if they draft him in the 1st round?

Brandon Weeden.

probably so...
and the sample size is so tiny it's beyond irrelevant.

To answer the OP...I don't have ton of confidence in Dallas picking the right guy in a 1st rd QB.

You're with the Texans now, Weeden. Move on.

Talk about cherry picked stats! Let's look a little closer.
Weeden was 9 out of 9 on 3rd or 4th down and 9+ yards to go.
Sounds pretty good?
His total yards on those completions was 112. His long was 87.
So that means, take out the one long reception and the remaining total yards is 112-87=25.
Average gain on those remaining 8 completions would be 25/8=3.125.
So you're citing Weeden's performance on third and long as a strength, but outside of one play, when he needed 9+ yards he could be counted on to get a little more than 3.

Weeden sucked. And the fact that Cassell sucks shouldn't tempt us to believe otherwise.

.......But the sample size was large enough to say he needed to be replaced.

That's how hypocrisy works. You cannot make an evaluation using data to determine he needed to be replaced and then rebuke the exact same data when it is cited to demonstrate numbers that refute the results of that evaluation.

Furthermore, you cannot ignore the same criteria when evaluating his replacement.

If we had signed Cassell before the season then would we have kept him as the starter given the current results. We would have probably replaced him with someone like....Weeden.

Or should I expand on Cassell's stats and the drives he directed?

Doesn't anybody find it just a little disheartening when another team scoops up the guy you cut 5 minutes ago?

Both Weeden and Cassel are hamstrung with the offensive game plan, if you want to call it that, Garrett and Linehan come up with. The only way even a Brady or Rodgers could succeed with Garrett and Linehan's game plans would be to audible out of everything.

I also remember he was not given the benefit of a functional defense, many of those guys were still hurt or suspended. He did not have Dez Bryant, he did not have the stability of a back that was featured all game long.

Two of his three opponents were undefeated at the time they played, including defending champions.

Weeden's QB rating in the 2nd half was over 100. Cassell's is 67.8.

Cutting him was a grave error, as was underestimating the cohesive value of Murray, and trusting a fool like Randle.
