I guess because I consider impact plays differently than most. I consider them to be INTs, Forced Fumbles, Sacks, Big Hits, TDs scored more so than Passes Completed or even TD Passes.

Thus while I have confidence in him and high expectations I do not have him in my top 5. It is not out of disrepespect for him. I just see a playmaking defense and some very powerful scoring weapons. The offensieve weapons making an impact will be doing so thanks to him.

Some of those 3rd down conversions he made last season were some pretty big impact plays IMO. That's just one reason I wouldn't object to him being on a Impact Player Top 10 list.

I don't object at all, and I don't disagree with anyone putting him top 5 on ours or even 1st. As much emphasis as I put on QB you'd think I would have him #1 on my list, but I just think differently about it than some do.

1. Owens- Best big game threat we have
2. Ware- Can change a game with a sack or forced fumble/int at anytime.
3. Romo- Can jump start a dead offense with his attitude and his playmaking ability
4. Terry Glenn- When ever we need a big play, this guy gives it to us, can be quiet for 3 qtrs and catch a 70 yard bomb that gets us back in a game.

5. N/A- We don't have any other playmakers. Hopefully we have some players step up in this role, Roy(picks off balls, but gives up too many deep balls), Newman(sick of waiting for it), Julius(pfft), Witten(probably on the verge of being a playmaker), Spencer( herre's hoping).

Definition of Playmaker as I understand it:

A player who changes the momentum of a game with a single play that fuels a significant turnaround. I'm not sure this definition requires consistency. So while Roy maybe has given up lots of deep balls, he also makes the hit, or pick, or sack, that lifts the fortunes of the team. I give you the INT of McNabb for a TD that won the game two years ago

Romo, to this point, has had some pretty volatile performances. His debut vs the Giants is a good example. Made some crucial tunrovers, but also made some big plays with his feet, arm, scrambling etc. So yes he's volatile, but if the definition is single game changing plays or moments his scramble & long completion to Witten to set up the winning FG vs the Giants fits beautifully.

A playmaker, in my opinion, is not necessarily the foundation of your team. He's not necessarily the best player on your team. Newman, in my opinion would absolutely be a foundational player to our D. He largely takes away whoever he is covering. But he is not a playmaker because he doesn't swing the momentum by picking off a pass or causing a fumble. He rarely does that.

I understood that part, but offensive lineman don't carry the rock, the running backs do. And to date, with few exceptions, JuJo has been anything but a playmaker.

I hope you're right, but I don't see it, personally.

Admittedly, no RB does it all by himself. My premise was that with improved OL play (addition of Davis & another year together for the rest) and a bit more freedom in his running style, that we would see more of the old Julius from late in his rookie year that had this board absolutely frothing at the mouth - Seattle game in particular. People were ga-ga over him. Overly so in retrospect? Yes.

I'm just suggesting, and admittedly optimistically speaking, that the old Julius can make a re-emergence as a playmaker once more.

To me, and you need to go back to my definition again, MBIII is not a playmaker. He's a grinder at best to me. Does that have value? Absolutely. I personally still believe he will never be a feature back because he doesn't break the long one. I know it can be argued thats more sizzle than substance. MBIII is a bus driver at RB IMO. Give me the basics, don't cough it up, etc. Again, not downplaying that necessarily. I just don't think it fits my definition of a playmaker.

Roy??...JJ???..Not last year..:lmao2:

Well the original post asks for predictions on playmakers for 2007. Spencer made several lists as well based upon what people feel he will do in 2007.

How is Barber considered a playmaker? I ask this in all seriousness because I'd like to hear the thoughts from those that have him on their list.

Not trying to take anything away from him but Playmaker, to me, means that you're making impact plays that greatly effect the outcome of the game when you don't expect them. "BIG PLAYS"

Barber scored TD's all inside the red zone when you EXPECT to score. He's an outstanding runner inside the red zone but it wasn't like he was breaking out with huge TD plays from midfield or anything.

He made the yards when we needed them. It was the WAY he made them. Tough, fiery. The entire team gets pumped up when he is in the game. That is why I call him a 'playmaker'. Maybe 'difference maker' is more apt.
