How did the Chiefs get Patrick Mahommes?

The Chiefs, despite having a starting QB on the roster did whatever it took to draft him.

Wentz? Darnold? Watson? Goff? Mayfield? Rodgers? Luck?

Same answer.

To the people who are so afraid of the QB wastelands, there's a reason the Jets have sucked at QB for a while...because Darnold is the first QB they've taken in the first round since the 90s!!

Same thing could be said for the Campo era cowboys.

If you want an elite QB, you're going to have to draft one high!!

How would a Tua or Herbert look in THIS offense? They would be way cheaper than Dak and have way more upside..

There is absolutely NO reason to pay Dak 20M or more... No reason.

Daks biggest problem is he has been in the league 3 years and has yet to put this team on his back and carry them once! I mean there has yet to be a game that Zeke can coast while Dak takes it to the defense. Zeke plays his tail off and the offense sputters when he doesnt. You cannot pay a guy franchise money without seeing more ability!

What leverage would Dak Prescott have? Who the hell but the Cowboys is going to sign him to a significant long term deal? They will be negotiating against themselves. There is no market. That front office is the only one who believes he can play.

Probably something between your view and the organization view should be where reality lies.

Dak is a middle of the road QB with some upside in intangibles, and poor pocket awareness. I would expect him to improve over time, even though his progression hasn't been what we have hoped.

I would like to see us pay him $15 million per year for 4 years with all of it guaranteed. That's a good deal for both parties.

Having said that, it probably won't happen like that. He will probably get paid $25 million per year which will be far too much for his current level of play, but would probably be a bargain 4 or 5 years from now.

Lmao saying Dak has no leverage is laughable. That’s the one thing he does have. Did you see this team in 2015 without a viable QB? Dak stepped in during the 2016 preseason and saved the franchise. He has taken a mostly average franchise over the last 10 years and taken them to the 3rd most winning team in the NFL since he’s arrived.

NFL franchises are a mess without an at least average QB. Who else would the team have play QB? This team is way too talented to have another top 5 pick so you can kiss drafting a QB high goodbye. Imagine if we drafted Paxton Lynch or Connor Cook? I’m not the biggest Dak fan, but it’s quite obvious that his presence has allowed us to be an above average franchise and compete for the playoffs every year.

Dak has all the leverage lol

If Dak will not accept 15m a year then you trade him or let him walk. Roll with white 1 year and earn a top 2 pick then don't get cute and draft the best QB available.
Hahahahahaha glad this guy isn’t running the franchise. You don’t just tank and get handed a franchise QB lol, basing the future of your franchise on so many unknowns is soooo stupid

How many people pull that off man? You can’t just count on a phenom QB being available and a team letting you trade up. They had an opportunity and took it, good for them. But that is not our situation, and praying for the same scenario is wishful thinking not a plan of action.

So you just want to cripple our salary cap on a JAG and hope he gets better?

I would rather trade away multiple picks for a Tua type of QB and use our Money to pay the defense and Zeke.

That would be the perfect plan.

I mean, all Tua has to do is play it safe and hand it off anyways..

There is NO SCENARIO in wich paying Dak is a good idea.

Dak hasn't improved in 3 years, what makes you think he will?

And, as has been discussed ad nauseam, if Rodgers can't carry a team, what makes you think Dak can? It's not worth it. The ONLY way you pay a QB that kind of money is if you believe he can do that and even Dak's most ardent supporters will tell you Dak will never be that kind of player..

As far as Dak taking less than 25M a year goes, there's a reason Dak fired his agent and signed a high profile one. Doesn't seem like he wants under 25M to me.

Let him walk.

Mr. Tua, come on down and drive this bus.

Any team that extends a QB who’s not elite is in this same boat. Teams overpay for middling guys to avoid having bad ones. The position is too important. We don’t need know-nothings telling us about the math. Yes, 2nd QB contracts are expensive.

Dak’s going to get paid and he’s going to get a reasonable commitment from the team. It’s happening. The question is how to assemble the right talent around him now.
I don't mind the team paying him... within reason that won't cripple the team.
I just want some easy outs in the contract that also won't cripple the team.

I don't want to be eating 28 milly in dead money like we've done for Romo in case a better product shows itself.

Although some people disgree there is a difference between the arguments that occurred before and after Prescott arrived, the disputes have not changed. What some fans want is not likely what Jones & Co. want.

How many times did some people want the franchise to draft a first round quarterback between April 2007 and May 2016? Answer: Quite a few. How many 1st round picks were used to satisfy some fans' desire? Answer: Zip.

This topic keeps re-igniting like firecrackers on a bed of lava. When will fear and lack of economics sense stop-and-allow some people to ask the only important question there is?

Question: How much Jerry Jones trust Prescott to lead his franchise?

That particular answer is the most relevant in determining whether or how much Prescott will get paid.

Great post and a great fear. Who here honestly trusts Jerry's trust?

who's nate? just some fat guy who blocked for one of the best quarterbacks for the cowboys. Him and Troy can't be right. I read on here how Dak is better than Brady, Brees, Rodgers and the other 31 quarterbacks in the NFL. I support Dak even though he sucks.

I like your repeated "I support Dak" as you dog him into the dirt.
Not subtle, but effective.

So, being a devil's advocate here and not necessarily disagreeing: what about Woodson's view? He did his job studying QB's for a living.

Nate said 13-15 million per year max is enough for Dak.
lol is nate deciding what all qb's are worth , man it just never ends.
Jones boys will decide all that, and right or wrong, worth it or not, dak will get what kirk got, I suspect, somewhere in that area,
or he can always refuse the offer if too low.
I wont worry about that, it is between jones boys and dak.

I'd pay Dak 18m a year and no more but I think he'll get 25m
