Basketball is also the hardest to officiate...10 players running and moving in a confined space, you are running and moving too and have to make a judgment in fractions of a second, because you can't really wait to throw that flag 5 seconds after the play is over.;)

Is that why your name is blindzebra? Do you officiate baskeball?

Yeah, the 5 second thing is funny in football...there is too much time after a play to influence a football ref to make a call! But, it happens because of the slack time after a play...

I don't watch the NBA much, although here in Utah we have the Jazz, I do follow it sometimes if the Jazz are doing good like during the Jazz/Bulls champ game...but basketball is tough as hell to play if you want to be good at it.

Also, baseball absoutely sucks, in my opinion...there is nothing more boring (unless you are a player) to watch...well there is golf...which I will not ever try and play because I've seen too many golfers get so freaking frustrated because of it! BUT, they say, if you ever play golf...you will never want to quit because of the "self competition" to do better next time...it's just you and the ball... I don't need that kind of frustration! Hell, it's frustrating enough just trying to live a normall life!!

I've been officating basketball since 1991 and at 42 I'm the best I've ever been...but if some of these guys had their way, I'd be forced to hang it up.

I bet you are in damn good shape, too! You don't see too many basket ball refs out of shape...they have to run as hard as the players...like tennis, back and forth, back and forth....

That's another thing about the difference of refs in football and refs in basketball, besides knowing the game itself.

I'm glad I don't have your job! I bet you get so abused...? :D

Not as hard as the players, we have plenty of stop and starts in our running, but if you figure 70 feet X around 150-200 change of possessions a game it's typically a couple of miles a game.

What abuse?:laugh2:

I know its a lot to ask some of theese guys tp keep up w/ theese athletes. But how hard is it to move 5 feet out of the way on a pass that hung in the air several seconds?

Were trusting this guy to make calls when he cant even decipher whether or not hes right in the middle of the play

Alright ...NFL Officials are part of ther field. You cannot use officals as an excuse for getting in the way of a player on either side of the ball - Well have to live with that. But what about dressing up for a game with football protective equipment?

Shoulder pads

helmet (modified specifically for officials)

It really does not make too much sense to have unprotected officials, officiate in a full contact sports where players outweigh officials by more than 100lbs.

Suit the officials up with equipment before someone gets very seriously injured.

Why the sudden concern for the health of the officials?
