A Year From Now Cowboys Will Be Prepping For Training Camp in Frisco

Water-logged by the rain? Not enthralled by the return of Josh Hamilton?

Take heart, two months from today the Cowboys will be in Oxnard for 2015 training camp.

The team released its camp plans Thursday and will fly to California July 28 and hold the first practice July 30. Can’t make it out West but always wanted to see a training camp practice? You’re in luck. If you’re patient, that is.

Because a year from now the Cowboys will be moved into their new facility in Frisco, dubbed The Star. Part of the 2016 training camp will be held at the new facility, making this summer the Cowboys’ last to train out of Texas.

The Star will feature two outdoor practice fields and a 12,000-seat indoor stadium with enough parking to accommodate open practices.

So if you’re ready for some football, wait two months for training camp and only 14 months for training camp right here in the Metroplex...

I guess they have to practice indoors majority of the time in TC.

I have actually been by there a couple of times. They have the bleachers in place. Pretty cool looking so far.

It will be over-run with casual fans and super crowded. It is more relaxed in California in terms of being able to see it up close.

Yes, but that's outweighed by the fact that I personally can actually attend camp now. So deal with it. ;)

Yep, I'm nearby also, but I dread the overload of morons that just want autographs. It was bad enough in San Antonio. The best times were when it was in Austin and not that many people showed up back then.

Last I had heard, training camp would be split between Oxnard and Frisco in 2016-17. So this wouldn't be the last summer the team trains outside of Texas, but it may be the last time the entire camp is held outside of Texas.

I hope at least some of camp continues to be held in Oxnard, because it's a great place to watch a training camp.

I drive by there everyday. Warren Parkway has become a nightmare with just one lane open in each direction on part of it. I sure won't mind when all the construction is over. But the facilities are certainly coming along... Can't wait..!!

If you're at Toyota Stadium, it's no more than a 10 minute drive south on the Dallas North Tollway.
Thank you.
I've driven up Legacy a bit to Toyota and can't see the complex from there but the road dips and twists all over the place.

Does any team have a complex/headquarters that's anything close to what the Cowboys will have in Frisco? Just wondering...

Those were great times at St. Edwards practice field. I took my son there a couple times and went with a friend once. Also attended every day by myself on another week's vacation. You could see the players almost face to face at times and some of the action was only about 30 feet away. Jimmy Johnson's practices were really intense and the action was fast paced and tranferred quickly from one segment to another. On one drill, Eugene Lockhart hit a guy so hard he went up into the air about six feet off the ground and turned a flip. That was the hardest hit
I've ever seen so close up. Good times.

I went to St Edwards every year they were there. Really enjoyed it, hot as can be but those guys never let up. When someone started dragging tail Irvin was there to get them going.
