You'd be out of business quickly then too.

I'm going to guess you're posting this while at work too, which would be epic irony.

Perhaps our experience are different, are political expressions allowed at your workplace?

That's the chance they take.

My point was every workplace/employer has rules, you follow them or you look for another job.

Who knows if this story is true or not. The NFL does not have a rule for standing during the national anthem, so players don't have to, but if NFL teams can add their own rules and this owner did so, then players should follow them. Just like Garrett added players travel in ties.
The Golden Rule is whoever has the gold makes the rule....if Jerry says everyone stands for the anthem then that is a team rule and it has to be followed...just like suits on the bus or no facial hair like the Yankees.....Pepsi employees can't eat at Coke restaurants and this is still America.....my boss can't tell me who to vote for but he can tell me not to put signs up at work or wear shirts that endorse someone

Antonio Cromarie knelt last week for INDY and was cut this week....hmmmmm

Cromartie was terrible in that game. Awful! Plus, he might have done something against team rules while in London.
Your theory is a possibility. However, if he had a pick and a TD break-up in that game, he'd be on the team still.

Moral - If you're going to go against the grain, you better not suck.

They cut Sio Moore as well and he was a starting LB

What if a player wants out of a place such as Cleveland? Should he kneel down for the national anthem and let the Browns cut him. Seems like he would be rewarded by getting the chance to go sign with another team.

The NFL probably has a more strict dress code than your place of employment. They fine players when their jerseys are untucked.

I doubt your place of business could just fire someone if they raised a flag, played the national anthem and that person didn't stand for it. At least without opening themselves up to some sort of lawsuit.
It really depends on the state and most states are at-will, given the nature of the NFL and the way contracts are setup I doubt a lawsuit would get far. Remember the COTUS only protects against infringement from the govt. Most employers have you sign something upon hire that pretty much puts you in a police state.

The image of a team is important to its value, an owner has every right to make people stand for the anthem if they so choose.

I am glad none of the Cowboys have been involved in this nonsense.

hopefully no nfl owner will resort to the north korean communist mandate of forced flag standing.

NFL owners going to force QB's to throw touchdowns next? How about force jeff heath to not get hurt?

Lol, at the idea that Jerry Jones has ever said anything as articulate as this: "“Regardless of your personal opinions, this is a sacred day that we recognize the sacrifice and pain that so many have endured. When the National Anthem is played by a lone trumpet player in a few minutes you WILL stand and you WILL put your hand over your hearts.” Whoever wrote that wasn't even trying to channel Jerry. :)

Not our jerry anyway. Jerry Richardson maybe.

And they should be able to tell me I cant go to the bathroom, cant eat, cant get a lunch break, cant....

The only way they can do what you're saying is if it is in the employee handbook and a part of the original agreement when accepting employment. They cant just arbitrarily add/remove things on a whim.

Doug Baldwin claims at least one owners has ordered players to stand for anthem

The NFL has no choice but to allow players to not stand for the national anthem, because no rule or labor agreement permits the NFL to compel it. But the 32 teams are individually owned, by folks who have a lot of money and power and like to spend (and make) the former and wield (and amass) the latter.

It’s no surprise, then, that Seahawks receiver Doug Baldwin claims that one or more owners have ordered players to stand for the anthem. Appearing on HBO’s Any Given Wednesday, Baldwin said that “some owners” have “taken a stand and told players to do certain things” regarding the anthem issue.

Pressed for specifics, Baldwin said, “[R]egarding the National Anthem and the protests, the one quote that I was informed of was, ‘You’re going to stand on the line with your hand on your heart and you’re going to sing the National Anthem because this is my stage.’”

Baldwin then clarified that it’s his understanding an owner said that. Baldwin didn’t specify the owner, but many will suspect that it was Cowboys owner Jerry Jones, who to date has been the only owner to express disappointment regarding anthem protests.

Whoever it was, someone needs to go public with the name and the specific quote, so that the owner can confirm or deny the contention. And so that the other 31 owners who didn’t say it won’t be inaccurately blamed for saying it.

What's with Florio's little rant at the end of the article? Why does the owner have to go public?

Being able to eat or use the bathroom is totally different than things like this, no to mention there are laws about breaks and such. Companies everyday make changes to policy about things that were unforeseen whether it be about office wide fantasy football/NCAA pools, or other things that affect work efficiency or environment, etc. Equating no lunch break to a socio-political statement is stretch.
