I think that this current Dallas is already game on...and will do better than anticipated. The depth is getting stronger, really.

The step down from a 1st team All Pro (Lee) to a journeyman LB (Durant) is a big one.....

Actually it's the matchups that matter and how he fits in the scheme. It's how he does his job. I don't think you will see a huge dropoff but certainly some. Lee is a better cover LBer but he isn't as fast as Durant. Just shows that football players supercede athletic talent.

People act like we didn't go a whole season without Sean Lee and play pretty well on defense. I love Lee but he isn't going to make or break the defense. Other guys should know the defense/gameplan anyway, being in this defense for the past 5 years

And I read an option is to use fb Keith Smith at lb if necessary. He came ijnto the league (Cowboys) as a lb. But later moved to fb. So has experience. Don't know who'd take the fb duties, maybe Rod Smith or a TE.

More than a step with that analogy. Hoping for the best for Sean Lee, this is going to sting like the saying goes...Durant seems less than himself this year not sure if age or injury and Jaylon bless his heart is trying his hardest but not there yet. Rams are trying to be run first so whomever gets the torch is going to be picked on if I was a rookie coach. I imagine screens and TE's will be active in their area if I could see the game like Romo does...

Jerry said lately that the call as to whether to play or not will be up to Lee to make. I'm inclined to speculate if that's indeed the case, that Lee will choose to compete. If not, either Durant or Keith Smith would possibly step in at WLB. Hopefully, if need be, the dropoff won't be too severe.

I guess no one wants to say it so I will. As much h as I absolutely love what Lee brings to our defense, I also recognize that his career has been littered with injury. The guy is a beast and a fighter but, if I were McClay, I would absolutely be drafting no less than 2 LB fairly high this offseason.

I have always beat the same drum. Competition only makes you stronger. You either be one stronger or you fade. Some examples from the past that were personal to me..

Mike Jenkins.. .. Then there was my boy OSCAN.

The lack of ability to protect Romo... Then there was my boy Doug Free.

Joseph Randle.. .. Then there was Zeke.

The overall lack of ability in our secondary... Then there was Awuzie, Woods, and Lewis.

I'll stop short of using the term I often coined for Lee. One that refers to a doll from a country larger than ours. I recognize that he's a game changer and truly needs to be on that field in order for our defense to function the way we know it can. My only hope is the improved play of the DL, getting guys back on the DL, and the emergence of our young guys in the secondary can all work together to mask the deficiency we have at LB when Lee is out.

We need a speedy WR in the draft and a couple of LBs to compliment Jaylon who'll continue to improve.
