I've gotta believe much of the reason Murray stayed healthy last year was due to two things. Better conditioning and a vastly improved OL to block for him. It helps a lot when a RB isn't constantly getting pounded on every carry. Isn't it entirely possible CJ Spiller would be likely to enjoy the same advantage? I'd be willing to bet he'd thrive on it.

Here is the thing......

We win games running the ball. Our MO is dictate the game offensively and dominate TOP with a strong running game.

We did this with a back that had 1,800 yards year

That 1, 800 yard back is likely leaving.

We have to replace that production.

Are you gonna expect Spiller to replace those 1,800 yards?

Are you gonna expect a rookie to replace those 1,800 yards? AD ran for 1,300 as a rookie.

Or are you gonna look for a combination of the two

anyone else find it ironic that Murray managed to stay healthy for the first time ever in a contract year?

Shhhh dont say that around here. It makes too much sense. I got ripped on last time i brought that up in the AP thread

Spiller is very injury prone. Who knows though. Would definitely be worth a look if AP isnt coming to town and Murray isnt. I honestly think they may go RB in round 1 if there isnt a pass rusher that can instantly make an impact.

Quite possible but I fear Spiller is not the guy who gets you those dirty yards like Murray to keep the drive going.

With this line, I'm not against the idea. Spiller has always been a home run guy. But I think we'll have competition for his services, likely from Philadelphia.

I think spiller is out of our range too. I think it comes down to PETERSON if he takes a cheap deal like we all have said. Ingram or draft a guy early.

Nobody suggested we wouldn't or couldn't draft someone like Gurley to secure a kickass combo. That'd be nice.
Let's also not forget we've also got the services of Ryan Williams as well. CJ & RW could do serious damage.

The chances of Peterson accepting a "cheap deal" are slim and none -- and that's being optimistic. I'd be willing to bet CJ Spiller would be far more likely to come somewhat reasonably than AP. Elite players simply don't accept quantum deductions in pay, even if they like Texas.

Peterson has already said he will take a discount to play in Dallas. Hes also basically set for life. Im not saying he will be cheap. But 5-6.5 could probably get him in a Dallas uniform. With incentives of course

@ProFootballTalk: If DeMarco Murray surprises the Cowboys and leaves, don't be surprised if they make a run at C.J. Spiller http://t.co/ZoCXXGNWfa

Clearly just florio being his usual self but figured I'd post

let me reach deep in my arse and pull something out.

here is my prediction. if cowboys don't sign murray they might sign mark ingram

hell now I am as good as florio...

Great points. DM29 worked out with Witten for the first time - extensively (probably lead to him being in the best shape of his career). He had the highest yardage before contact (biproduct of great OL).

If we did get Spiller, the only questions I have deal with his toughness and durability. Otherwise, he would be a fantastic acquisition, should DM29 depart (this from a huge DM29 fan). Spiller + Ryan Williams could get it done: in tandem.

broken collar bone, not a good injury for a RB.

Bones routinely heal stronger once they've healed. Aside from that, no injury is "good" for anyone, regardless of whether it's an RB or otherwise. Many RBs have had broken collar bones and have returned to action to enjoy long careers. It's nowhere near crippling.
