anyone else find it ironic that Murray managed to stay healthy for the first time ever in a contract year?

Yeah I do. Not for your reasoning though. He had an O line for the very first time worth a salt.

I think spiller is out of our range too. I think it comes down to PETERSON if he takes a cheap deal like we all have said. Ingram or draft a guy early.

What RBs are going for I don't see cheap in line with AP. It sure doesn't look like the position has been all that de-valued so far.

Here is the thing......

We win games running the ball. Our MO is dictate the game offensively and dominate TOP with a strong running game.

We did this with a back that had 1,800 yards year

That 1, 800 yard back is likely leaving.

We have to replace that production.

Are you gonna expect Spiller to replace those 1,800 yards?

Are you gonna expect a rookie to replace those 1,800 yards? AD ran for 1,300 as a rookie.

Or are you gonna look for a combination of the two

We could go the Patriots' route of running back by committee with Spiller, Ryan Williams, and Randle. They would surpass 1,800 yards (collectively) and would presumably be healthy when playoffs come around. DM29 kind of slowed down in December because of all the carries he had.

RB by commitee - with quality RBs behind this studly OL - could work.

If we don't pour a ton of money into a 1st tier back (like DM29), we could use more money to fill glaring holes on defense.

Skeptical about this. If true, I can only suppose they looked at some tape of Spiller in 2012 when he exploded for Buffalo in the zone scheme.

Personally, I do not care for him as a lead back. It would mean pairing with another more physical back.

Peterson has already said he will take a discount to play in Dallas. He's also basically set for life. Im not saying he will be cheap. But 5-6.5 could probably get him in a Dallas uniform. With incentives of course

Even at a "discount," AP could easily demand millions more than he'd be likely to get in Dallas. Players say lots of things before they reach the bargaining table. Once they're there, the story often changes. I'd be amazed if he were to even seriously consider anything the Cowboys might suggest. It's just a pipe dream to think so. He's posturing.

I have a feeling Randle wont be around for long. Im not a huge fan of either one of them anyways. Randle looked good, but would show more warts with more responsibilities. Wouldnt be a good compliments to Spiller in style anyways. Williams is one dimensional and has a very poor career track record. I wouldn't trust him as anything more then a #3.

With this line, I'm not against the idea. Spiller has always been a home run guy. But I think we'll have competition for his services, likely from Philadelphia.

CJ Spiller in Philly would be scary.

So we lose one injury prone back to grab another injury prone back? Makes sense

Bingo! I spent a lot of time in Buffalo last year and between Spiller and Fred Jackson the Bills had a great one two punch but could never count on them. Spiller is an enigma. He's explosive but not necessarily productive. He only has 12 total TD's in 5 seasons and his numbers have drastically decreased each year from 2012.

But - I'm hedging because I'm not saying he couldn't explode and be great. He's not a physical every down tough runner but he's talented.
I guess what I'm saying is I'm not sure how I feel about him. He could be a home run or he could be a flop.

How's that for a decisive assessment. Geesh!

I seem to remember reading somewhere that Spiller is really overvaluing his worth and will demand a good bit of coin. If that is the case, I would rather just draft a rookie and take my chances.

If we are balking at a few million extra for Murray but paying Spiller anywhere close to $6M a year, we are doing it wrong.

I have to agree. I just don't see all this "cheap RB" stuff coming to light. I think the insiders devalued them more than teams have.
If not Murray hit the draft.

Spiller is a great choice as he will likely be able to match or exceed Murray's fumble totals.

Running behind the Dallas line instead of Buffalo's wouldn't make a difference in the number of hard hits he'd have to take? C'mon, now. If anything, he'd probably fumble considerably less behind the C'boys OL. Admit it.

Right, this signing to me would mean going back to the Felix/Barber tandem approach, which I'm not in favor of. I want a bell cow RB getting the vast majority of the touches.

lets calm down on the whole Philly is gonna sign everyone. Every post that even remotely mentions Dallas signing a FA gets followed by a "watch out...philly might get him first". Look Chip Kelly just gutted their franchise of their two most prolific players on offense and their fanbase is not happy at all.
