Hear me out before ya laugh...........

2012-Toyota-Prius.jpg

My wife has one because she drives about 600 miles a week. Talk about dependable, never had a problem with it, never and it is a few years old. You can get one just shy of 20k(2012 or 2013) or even go a couple of years older.

It doesn't look like a lot of room inside....wrong, it is pretty spacious. She hauls two girls around(3 and a 4 yr old) and there is quite a bit of room in the back for packing stuff in. It has all the bells and whistles:
NAV system
hands-free built in phone/bluetooth
power everything

It really is a good ride, nice and smooth and if you tend to have a lead foot.......no more speeding tickets for you :)

It is a bit embarrassing when I drive it and two hot little numbers pull up next to me at a light, giggling or whatever. I just give them a "whats up" nod and push up on the shades some

Oh, if someone needs a jumpstart and you are there to help, don't walk around like I did wondering where the battery is........

how's the acceleration? I would probably look at the Volt first if I was going to do the hybrid/electric thing.

Bought a 4-door 2007 Honda Accord off one of those cash-only dealer lots. I have an hour commute to work and the cost in gas savings is huge compared to my SUV. When I go out of town to FW, I still have half a tank of gas to use after a 4 hour drive. The newer ones are real nice and look like a pretty decent size.

Yeah, I just went from a 03 Ford Explorer to a 2012 Ford Focus.....sooooooo much less gas is needed

I thought maybe I am wrong, but thought the Fusion was getting the award winning 3 cylinder from the Fiesta, it is turbo charged makes 120 hp and gets 45 mpg in the Fiesta, probably close in the Fusion.

Ford doesn't make a 3 cylinder anymore. The Fusion comes in a few packages: base 4 cylinder, base 6 cylinder, turbocharged 4 cylinder ecoboost. I think the ecoboost is the best of the bunch.

given that GM has recalled more cars this year then they produced in the last 3 years (i believe) i'd not even touch one of their products.

Ford's first three-piston motor is a 1.0-liter turbocharged powerhouse with an aluminum block the company says is small enough to fit on a sheet of letter paper or in a piece of carry-on luggage, with room to spare. With it, Ford joins Smart, Mitsubishi and MINI in what’s quickly becoming the year of the three-cylinder.

Rated at 123 horsepower, it has just three more ponies than the Fiesta’s standard 1.6-liter four-cylinder, but it comes with a big jump in tire-twisting torque. It’s rated at 125 lb-ft vs. 112 lb-ft, while a turbo overboost delivers up to 148 lb-ft in 15-second bursts. That’s a lot longer than you’d ever keep your foot planted to the floor in a car with a five-speed manual transmission. Lift, then shift.

The engine is so potent and delivers its punch at such low engine speeds that you can practically idle away from a stop. There’s none of the frantic revving and clutch-slipping commonly required when driving an econobox. This is good, because an automatic transmission isn’t available.

Was in Europe for a couple of years I believe.

To be fair, the ignition switch issue (which was inexcusable) put GM under a lot of scrutiny to the point where they're issuing recalls for things now that would never be recalls for any other manufacturer. To wit, my Camaro SS has a recall on it because 3 people out of 514,000 cars sold were somehow able to contort enough to actually knock the key to the off position, and the "fix" is a smaller key.

If I were looking for an economical A-to-B car it would probably be a Focus. They're nice little cars for the price. A Fusion maybe if more room is needed.

I've been driving a 98' Jeep Wrangler for the last 6 years. Love it, great vehicle, albeit not very practical with my large tires...Anyhow, I've got a new job where I'll have to do a bit of traveling (three hours to from Atlanta to Nashville every few weeks and local sales calls), I now have an infant and use a car seat (really sucks in the Jeep), and I'll probably have to entertain some clients. So I'm looking for a new (used) car and would appreciate your opinions on the best bet.

Looking for the best 4-door sedan with the best combo of:
Performance
Gas Mileage
Leg Room
Style
Under 30K

Looking hard at the Dodge Charger right now, but like to hear about what you guys drive.

How about a Honda CR-V? It's not a sedan and I don't know what you mean by performance (are you going to take it on the race track on the weekends?). The CR-V gets god gas mileage, is roomy, stylish, under 30K, and your clients will feel comfortable. You can also put stuff like briefcases, suitcases, company product demos and other stuff in the back very easily. Sharp looking car also. The car seat would be no problem. And the CR-V sits higher than a sedan which makes getting in and out a lot easier.

I used to make fun of these cars just like the next guy until we owned one. It has not been in the shop once. Our BMW x5 and Jeep GC Limited spend more time there than on the road :(

Have no qualms with Toyota quality - own one myself. But I'd rather be in my truck than a Prius at time of impact.

I had a chrysler 300c hemi it was a nice car. It was pretty fast and got good gas mileage for being a heavy v8. Basically like the charger but better looking. Only thing I didnt like about it was they dont ride very good at all.

If you are going to go with the charger and are ok with that MPG it offers...why not go with the Challenger as it looks MUCH better IMO.

I'm currently thinking about getting a challenger in the next month or two.

I know you mentioned used, but check out the new Mazda 6. I bought one last year. 38 mpg on the highway and pretty sporty looking. Has a ton of options which are standard.

Dude, just give it up. You've got a child. Get a minivan already.
