The good news:
Almost every NFL team is lacking OL depth
If Dak was not ready to roll, there would be a more established back up here

The bad news:
We need OL depth
We need a back up QB

we are lacking depth because we ignored the OL in FA and the draft.

Then we are decently set. Cut all 3 current backup qb. Trade or sign best one released. Also need another ol backup who can play center and guard. Make the moves jerry and dummy son. No more bs talking. ACTION!!!!
I agree about the backup QB's, but Connor Williams was fine at center. Yes, needs to work on his snaps, but everything else looks good.

To think Dallas could have signed free agent QB M. Trubisky (signed a 1-year $2M deal with Buffalo) as their back-up QB to alleviate any back-up QB questions but then again he might have been too much of a threat to start:

"Trubisky hit a cornucopia of slants, destroying Chicago's defense to the tune of 20-of-28 passing for 221 yards and one TD while putting up 34 points in just two quarters. Trubisky looked as calm as he ever has under center, finding targets quickly and escaping when needed. Often Trubisky's first read was open, and he showed good accuracy over the middle. He still doesn't have the deep sideline throw in his toolbox, but that was the only negative for him on Saturday."

Did you watch the game last night...the backup line stunk and the 1st team wasn't much better.

I also saw QB's hold onto the ball way too long. You use a 3 step drop, the ball must come out quickly.
You are correct but that wasn't the point of my comment... Williams is barley adequate at guard but much worse at center...we need to get a true center and stop trying to cross train a guy that never played center in his life... would you trust him playing 1st team center if Tyler B gets hurt?

I think that it probably isn't going to matter about the backup qb. They need Dak to play all season to be a contender this year. They aren't going to get a backup qb this year that can lead them to the promise land. They may be able to get Dalton to come back in the future.

I mean this goes for any team out there. Show me a team who can lose their starting QB the whole year and go to a Super Bowl? That isn't the point of a backup QB. He's to have you tread water if your starter goes down for a little time. If you have to rely on your backup the entire season, you are usually going to fail.

But the 3 guys we have right now are not beating one team in this league. Dak goes down 2 games? We lost both. 3 games? We lose all 3. They are that bad. At least Dalton gave you a puncher's chance in some games. These have to be the worst collection of backups in the league. And the bad thing is, they were all here last year, all were terrible and we ran it back with them.

Well, like Stephen Jones always says, talent acquisition is a 365 day business.

He is putting in the time.

Was Stephen Jones talking about football or drinking and evaluating the talent at the local gentleman’s club?

We are talking about backup Center, Connor is a average, quality starter. If he had to play Center we would be fine. I worry more about our backup Tackles.

You have seen him snap the ball in shotgun right? You did see him get blown back on multiple plays that led to sacks or tfl right?if he is the plan at backup,we are screwed..and you're right, the backup tackles also suck.

He never played the position, there will be some growing pains, but he should be fine. If our young center cannot stay healthy, that's a bigger problem. Look around the league, many teams do not have quality OL depth, Connor Williams is far more quality then what is out there.

Its too bad Ball is hurt. He is a pretty talented OT. Was probably our best hope for a decent swing T

be that it may be , but he is looking at IR now and so no help this season. We need a serviceable tackle , which wont be available in the waiver wires.

Then we agree to disagree...I think it was a stupid idea to try to cross train a player who never played the position, especially when it comes to center... McGovern should have been the one to do this with, at least he did play some center in college and he is better built for it... only time will tell.

At the very least I thought we'd be getting an excellent QB coach in McCarthy. Sure, Aaron Rogers would make any coach look good, but it seemed like the Packers usually had decent backups. Right now I'm not seeing any indication of "quality QB coaching". It's early yet, but still we ought to be at least seeing flashes of competence.

Last thing I'll add, we have no idea why they aren't using McGovern, but they feel Williams gives them the best chance for success.

Be interesting to see if Cowboys do roster churn on 3 to 5 spots from waiver wire..
