hey I just noticed this, sorry for the delay.

there are a couple of ways.

the one most people find easiest is to get a dvd recorder, then burn the game to a couple of discs and then rip the game from the dvd to the hard drive. there are a number of freeware programs to rip the game from disc to avi on your cpu.

the way i do it is, I have a capture card. I plug my tivo into the capture card, and record the game. Its real time so you have to sit and watch the whole game! I recommend a capture device that is internal, a pci card.

there are many to choose from and they all come with software that allows you to record in many formats and edit.

If your a beginner you can get a program like pinnacle studio or ulead video. they are fairly inexpensive and come with a capture device and the software, and you can burn the games right to dvd from there also.

Let me know what you do I would be happy to help.

Does it have to plugged into the computer at the same time, or is it like a jump drive?

the capture device is a pci card device. Plugs in inside the computer.

The dvr plugs into the capture device.

Correct. The capture card will have inputs that you connect the cable to, similar to the back of a vcr/dvd player.
