need help from you english majors out there

Headquarters refers to a GROUP of buildings and retains that connotation from the military roots.

Plural, "are".

Even though you could probably use both, I'd go with "Our headquarters are..."

Just my two pence

Et tu, mon cherie?

thanks guys for your help, I'm getting that the consensus is that i was right and that it should be 'are', agreed?

It's IS. Unless you are talking about two different buildings, it's IS. You are right, if it's plural, you would use ARE, but the 'S' in headquarters doesn't make it plural. It's IS.

Either one is correct because the word headquarters can be singular or plural.

If there are multiple headquarters then I'd say "are".....otherwise it is "is".

Headquarters isn't a plural word...in this instance headquarters is representing a single entity.

That's my take on it.

I prefer ignoring what is "technically" right, and going with what looks and sounds best.

In this case, I think that would be "are."

The correct way is: All your [strike]base[/strike] headquarters are belong to us.

I like that answer. It [strike]are[/strike] is the best.

Now that's a complicated sentence.

"IS"

...but how do you pronounce "either" :p:

The same way Einstein does. No wait. Perhaps that should be the opposite of the way he does. I mean after all his name screws up the rule "I before E except after C" twice.
