And if you're wondering about the highly touted QB who is supposed to be mulling a transfer to Cullen Blvd., word is that man is Michigan's Ryan Mallett. The former star from Texarkana is said to be considering UH and Arky if he does indeed leave Michigan.

Any info?

What do you want to know other than he may be the best pro prospect out of all the freshmen QBs this season?

I have a 2nd round grade on Henne right now and would take Mallett over him every day of the week and twice on Sunday.

As an aside, this is my biggest problem with college football. Players should be able to transfer with no penalty if there's a coaching change. Mallett's a great QB but he can't/won't play in Rodriquez's system. Should he be penalized for that? He will be.

I just saw the blurb that he might be considering Houston, and they need a quarterback. I don't really know anything about him.

With the new coach coming in, this would be pretty huge.

He was ranked in the top three among pro-style QBs by all of the major scouting services. He played when Henne was injured and showed why. Looked very good for a true frosh. Pretty decent pocket awareness and mobility and the arm strength was obvious. His delivery is a little elongated, but there's room to get it more compact, and that appeared to effect his accuracy at times.

He struggled in his first game against Oregon but I don't think Michigan really prepared him to play that well seeing how Henne had been durable and had some accuracy issues vs. Wisconsin late in the year but overall, he looked to have all the makings of a serious first round QB.

It'd be a major coup if Houston could land him despite him having to sit out a year. He could use his redshirt during that year I believe so he'd have three years of eligibility left.

I could see that coming a mile away.

If you are not a running QB...RRod don't want you for his system.

I would imagine that Tyrell Pryor (SP?) will wind up going to Michigan. He was slated to go to WVU but before Coach Rod told his own team, he called and told Pryor to consider going to Michigan.

Pryor seems to be an Ohio State lean with FSU and Penn State still in the running. He's getting some pretty solid advice. A run first spread option like Rodriguez runs isn't conducive to the next level and that's Pryor's ultimate goal. Pat White's going to have to switch positions, Pryor doesn't want that to happen to him. He envisions himself as a Vince Young that can actually throw well.

He was godawful, thats about as nice as I could put it. Good against ND, decent against Minnesota, terrible against everyone else. Mallet diddnt even look like half the player Henne (who actually DID have a good freshman season) was 4 years ago. Mallet was in over his head. He has a cannon arm, but little accuracy and the scuttlebut was that certain upperclassmen at UM despised his attitude. He is a thrower, not a passer. Amazing arm, no touch, no accuracy, no feel for the game. If he leaves, then so be it. Im sure going to Houston is going to be a great career move...

Shaun King passed for nearly 4,000 when RRod was the OC of Tulane, but I guess since it diddnt happen to wvu, it never happened at all.

He was an OC then, not a HC who had the choice of what he wanted.

Trust me, we had a decent pocket passer in WVU when he first came here and he flat out told him that he could not work in his system so the guy transferred to Maryland.

He prefers a RUNNING QB who could also pass. But if you have watched WVU at all there is no way you can say he prefers a passing QB. Not with ANY credibility.
Heck if you look at Pat White's QB rating you can see it is actually pretty good. But they just don't use the pass much. Henne and Mallet is NOT the type of QB rich likes no matter how much you argue about it.

Do you realize that this season white did not have ONE game of passing for 200+ yards?

It is not because he is a bad passer, it is because it is the system.

It's not a dig at Rich it is just the system he uses that calls for athletic running QBs. I would not expect someone in a different system wanting a run first QB if their system is predicated on a Passing game...say a coach like June Jones or Mike Leach wanting a QB that is better known for Rushing than passing. It would just not make sense for the system.

Pryor was very keen about Rich Rod.

Rich rod actually called Pryor before he ever told his team about going to michigan.

When pryor was asked about the teams on his short list he said...you can add MICHIGAN to the list. The reason was quite clear and he may have been the first person to actually come out and all but admit that Rich was leaving.

I understand that RR called Pryor before even telling his team but that's because RR flat out needs Pryor. Michigan has no one that can run his system and Pryor may be the only high school QB who can who hasn't verballed somewhere.

RR was much higher on Pryor than Pryor was on WVU. Though it should be noted that Pryor's cousin plays for Michigan. He had eliminated Michigan long ago, he'd never sit behind Mallett for 3 years.
